The Brame-Reed House is a historic house in Shelbyville, Tennessee Shelbyville is a city in and the county seat of Bedford County, Tennessee, United States. It was built circa 1840 for Melchisedec Brame, a farmer from Virginia who owned 9 slaves. Brame died in 1845, and in 1850 a portico designed in the Greek Revival architectural style was added by his heir, William B. M. Brame. Shortly after, the house was purchased by L. C. Reed. By the 1870s, it was purchased by John Cotner, and it remained in the Cotner-Wood family until the 1980s. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since January 23, 1998. Shelbyville is a city in and the county seat of Bedford County, Tennessee, United States. The town was laid out in 1810 and incorporated in 1819. Shelbyville had a population of 20,335 residents at the 2010 census. The town is a hub of the Tennessee Walking Horse industry and has been nicknamed "The Walking Horse Capital of the World". Greek Revival Architecture
The Greek Revival was an architectural movement which began in the middle of the 18th century but which particularly flourished in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, predominantly in northern Europe and the United States and Canada, but also in Greece itself following independence in 1832. It revived many aspects of the forms and styles of ancient Greek architecture, in particular the Greek temple, with varying degrees of thoroughness and consistency.
