Bramble Bay
Bramble Bay is an embayment of Moreton Bay in South East Queensland, Australia. The Brisway map reference is 12 H5, or see page 91 G19 in Refidex. The Houghton Highway, Hornibrook Bridge and Ted Smout Memorial Bridge span Bramble Bay, connecting Redcliffe with Brisbane. The Brisbane to Gladstone yacht race begins in Bramble Bay. Activities for the annual race are centred on the Shorncliffe pier and nearby foreshore. Bramble Bay is the most environmentally degraded part of Moreton Bay. Because the bay is so close to the urban populations of Brisbane and Redcliffe the collection of shelled marine animals such as oysters, scallops and limpets is banned. Fishing within bay's closed waters, risks on the spot fines at all times under Queensland's closed water fishing regulations. Limpet
Limpets are a group of aquatic snails that exhibit a conical shell shape (patelliform) and a strong, muscular foot. Limpets are members of the class Gastropoda, but are polyphyletic, meaning the various groups called "limpets" descended independently from different ancestral gastropods. This general category of conical shell is known as "patelliform" (dish-shaped). All members of the large and ancient marine clade Patellogastropoda are limpets. Within that clade, the members of the Patellidae family in particular are often referred to as "true limpets". Other groups, not in the same family, are also called limpets of one type or another, due to the similarity of their shells' shape. Sediment is a naturally occurring material that is broken down by processes of weathering and erosion, and is subsequently transported by the action of wind, water, or ice or by the force of gravity acting on the particles. For example, sand and silt can be carried in suspension in river water and on reaching the sea bed deposited by sedimentation; if buried, they may eventually become sandstone and siltstone (sedimentary rocks) through lithification. Kedron Brook
The Kedron Brook is a creek that flows through the northern suburbs of Brisbane in the south-east region of Queensland, Australia. Course and features Formed by spring D'Aguilar Range within the southern portion of the D'Aguilar National Park, Kedron Brook rises below the retail shopping strip, near the outer suburb of Upper Kedron and flows in an easterly direction. Boondall Wetlands
The Boondall Wetlands lie on the edge of Moreton Bay in the Brisbane suburb of Boondall between Nudgee Beach and Shorncliffe, in south-east Queensland, Australia. The wetlands are preserved within the Boondall Wetlands Reserve which was preserved in 1990 and covers more than 1100 hectares of internationally significant wetlands. Description The Boondall Wetlands are Brisbane's largest wetlands. They became protected under the Ramsar Convention on 22 October 1993. The northern boundary is marked by Cabbage Tree Creek and the Kedron Brook floodway marks the southern limits of the wetlands. Hays Inlet
Hays Inlet is a saltwater inlet off Bramble Bay in Moreton Bay Region, Queensland, Australia. The Brisway map reference is 420 L19. A mangrove forest is found in the inlet. Geography The slender inlet forms the shape of the south-western Redcliffe suburb of Clontarf and the suburbs of Mango Hill and Griffin. Hays Inlet turns into Saltwater Creek at Rothwell, carrying the city boundary along it. South of Hays Inlet is Pine River which flows into Bramble Bay. The Houghton Highway and the Ted Smout bridges span Bramble Bay, just east of Hays Inlet. Cribb Island, Queensland
Cribb Island was a former suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, which is now part of the site of Brisbane Airport and part of the suburb of Brisbane Airport. The suburb was the childhood home of the Gibb brothers, who later became famous as the Bee Gees. Geography "Cribbie", as it was known by the locals, consisted of two areas which were made up of Cribb Island which had a beach facing Moreton Bay and was used mostly by holiday makers and Jackson's Estate to the south-west of the beach used for farming and permanent residents. The entire area of Cribb Island which was about long and 400 metres wide was built essentially on a mud flat that faced Moreton Bay.
