Berton Braley
Berton Braley (29 January 1882 – 23 January 1966) was an American poet. His best-known poem is "The Will to Win", written in a motivational tone. Life and work Braley was born in Madison, Wisconsin. His father, Arthur B. Braley, was a judge; he died when Berton Braley was seven years old. At 16, Braley quit high school and got a job working as a factory hand at a plow plant. After a few years, Braley went back to school and received his high school diploma. Shortly thereafter he discovered Tom Hood's poetry instructional book ''The Rhymester''. He spent some time after 1905 living in Butte, Montana, working as a staff journalist on the ''Butte Evening News'' (published 1905–1911). Braley was first published at the age of 11 when a small publication printed a fairy tale he wrote. Bruce Lowell Braley (born October 30, 1957) is an American politician and attorney who served as the U.S. representative for from 2007 to 2015. A member of the Democratic Party, he was defeated in his attempt to win an open seat in the 2014 United States Senate election in Iowa. Early life, education, and law career Braley was born in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Marcia L. (née Sherwood) and Byard C. Braley. He has English, Scots-Irish, and German ancestry. His family owned a farm in nearby Brooklyn, Iowa. Braley attended college at Iowa State University where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa College of Law. Callum Braley (born 23 March 1994) is an English rugby union player who plays for Northampton Saints in the Premiership Rugby. Braley played his early rugby with St Mary's Old Boys RFC. His first taste of senior rugby came when he made his full debut at the age of 17, playing in two British and Irish Cup games for his home city club Bristol against Cornish Pirates and Ayr. Scott Braley (born March 26, 1947) was a leftist activist and a regional organizer for the Michigan State University's chapter of the Students for a Democratic Society, better known as SDS. Braley became a member of Weatherman (later known as Weather Underground Organization) in 1969 and remained so until the group disbanded in 1977. Braley was one of the original members of the Revolutionary Youth Movement, a group devoted to anti-racism and Third World struggles which later evolved into Weatherman.
