BraSCII
BraSCII is an encoded repertoire of characters that was used in Brazil. It was used in the 1980s on several printers, in applications like , in video boards and it was the standard character set in the Brazilian line of MSX computers. This code page is known by Star printers as Code page 3847. History This character set was devised in 1986 by the Brazilian National Standards Organization (''Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas'' (ABNT)) through the standard NBR-9614:1986 and later revised in 1991 in the standard NBR-9611:1991. The code is based on the ISO/IEC 4873 standards, and it was nicknamed "BraSCII" (Brazilian Standard Code for Information Interchange) in analogy to "American Standard Code for Information Interchange" (ASCII). While ASCII is a 7-bit code, BraSCII is an 8-bit code, where the characters from 160 to 255 were configured to support extended characters. ABICOMP Character Set
The ABICOMP Character Set was an Character encoding, encoded repertoire of characters used in Brazil. It was devised by the ''Associação Brasileira de Indústria de Computadores'', a Brazilian computer industry association defunct in 1992. It was used on Brazilian-made computers and several printers brands. This code page is known by Star printers and FreeDOS as Code page 3848. Coverage The ABICOMP Character Set obviously contained the characters to cover Portuguese language, Portuguese. Lotus International Character Set
The Lotus International Character Set (LICS) is a proprietary single-byte character encoding introduced in 1985 by Lotus Development Corporation. It is based on the 1983 DEC Multinational Character Set (MCS) for VT220 terminals. As such, LICS is also similar to two other descendants of MCS, the ECMA-94 character set of 1985 and the ISO 8859-1 (Latin-1) character set of 1987. LICS was first introduced as the character set of Lotus 1-2-3 Release 2 for DOS in 1985. It is also utilized by 2.01, 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 as well as by Symphony. It was also utilized in a number of third-party spreadsheet products emulating the file format. Mac OS Roman is a character encoding created by Apple Computer, Inc. for use by Macintosh computers. It is suitable for representing text in English and several other Western languages. Mac OS Roman encodes 256 characters, the first 128 of which are identical to ASCII, with the remaining characters including mathematical symbols, diacritics, and additional punctuation marks.
