Boyne River (Manitoba)
The Boyne River is a river in the Hudson Bay drainage basin in the Central Plains and Pembina Valley Regions of Manitoba, Canada. Course The river begins in the Pembina Hills in a field in the Rural Municipality of South Norfolk in Central Plains Region, about northwest of the village of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes. It flows northwest to the town of Treherne on Manitoba Highway 2, continues north, then turns east. It passes to the north and east of the community of Rathwell, as it heads south under Manitoba Highway 2. The river turns southeast into the Rural Municipality of Dufferin in Pembina Valley Region, and reaches Stephenfield Lake, where it takes in the right tributary Roseisle Creek. Stephenfield Provincial Recreation Park is located on the lake. The Central Plains Region (french: Région des plaines centrales) is an informal geographic region of the Canadian province of Manitoba located in the south central part of the Canadian province of Manitoba, directly west of Winnipeg. Its major urban centre is the City of Portage la Prairie. Together with the Pembina Valley Region to the south, the Central Plains Region composes the broader cultural region of Central Manitoba. Geographically, the region is considered to be a part of southern Manitoba, and is serviced by the Southern Regional Health Authority. As of the 2016 census, the region had a population of 50,300 (compared to 48,289 in the 2001 census). Treherne, Manitoba
Treherne is an unincorporated urban community in the Municipality of Norfolk Treherne within the Canadian province of Manitoba that held town status prior to January 1, 2015. It is halfway between Winnipeg and Brandon on Provincial Highway 2. Primarily a farming community, Treherne has a significant portion of the municipality's population, which is around 1750 people, Official Treherne Website and has two schools (Treherne Elementary School and Treherne Collegiate Institute) and a hospital. There is also a daycare facility, and in 2006 Treherne opened the Treherne Aquatic Centre next to a campground facility. Treherne is named for George Treherne, an early settler. Nelson River
The Nelson River is a river of north-central North America, in the Canadian province of Manitoba. The river drains Lake Winnipeg and runs before it ends in Hudson Bay. Its full length (including the Saskatchewan River and Bow River) is , it has mean discharge of , and has a drainage basin of , of which is in the United States. Geography The Nelson River flows into Playgreen Lake from Lake Winnipeg then flows from two channels into Cross Lake. The east channel and the Jack River flow from the southeast portion of the lake into Little Playgreen Lake then the Nelson east channel continues in a northerly direction passing through Pipestone Lake on its way to Cross Lake. Carman is a small agricultural town of about 3,000 people in the Pembina Valley Region of southern Manitoba, Canada. Carman is at the junction of Highways 3 and 13, 40 minutes southwest of Winnipeg. Notre Dame de Lourdes is an unincorporated community recognized as a local urban district in the Municipality of Lorne within the Canadian province of Manitoba that held village status prior to January 1, 2015. It is located within the Central Plains Region, 100 km southwest of Winnipeg. The community had a population of 683 inhabitants in the 2011 census, an increase of 16.0% from the 589 inhabitants during the 2006 census. The community's name (English: Our Lady of Lourdes) is a reference to the Marian apparition that is said to have appeared before Saint Bernadette in Lourdes, France. History The site of Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes lies in Ojibwa country. Canadian pioneer explorer Pierre Gaultier de Varennes et de la Vérendrye traveled through the area in 1738 while seeking to establish a route to the western oceans.
