Boyer Oval
Boyer Oval is the home headquarters of the New Norfolk District Football Club and the Molesworth Cricket Club. The ground is a former Tasmanian Football League venue, being the host venue of 825 official TFL matches for New Norfolk (and one game for Hobart in 1974) in TFL football from 1947 to 1999 and from 2000 it became a venue for SFL football when New Norfolk were demoted from the Statewide League. It is located on First Avenue and has a back entrance on Back River Road (behind the club's licensed clubrooms) at New Norfolk, 38 kilometres north-west of the Hobart CBD. New Norfolk, Tasmania
New Norfolk is a town on the River Derwent, in the south-east of Tasmania, Australia. At the 2011 census, New Norfolk had a population of 5,543. Situated north-west of Hobart on the Lyell Highway, New Norfolk is a modern Australian regional centre which retains evidence of its pioneer heritage. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). The North Launceston Football Club, nicknamed ''The Bombers'', is an Australian rules football club based in Launceston, Tasmania. Australia. Since 2009 they have played in the newly formed Tasmanian State League. History The club started as "Railway Football Club" in 1893 and were known as "Essendon" in the 1898 season. It fielded a team in the NTFA Junior Competition for three years, and began playing in the senior competition in 1896. Its first season under the North Launceston name was in 1899 when it played in the Northern Tasmanian Football Association. Royal Derwent Hospital
The Royal Derwent Hospital, (originally New Norfolk Insane Asylum and later Lachlan Park) was built to house mentally ill and mentally handicapped persons in 1827, soon after the separation of Van Diemens Land from New South Wales. Its name was changed on 27 March 1968 to the Royal Derwent Hospital., also absorbing the nearby Millbrook Rise facility on 1 July 1968 to house patients. Boyer is a rural locality in the local government areas (LGA) of Brighton and Derwent Valley in the Hobart and South-east LGA regions of Tasmania. The locality is about south-west of the town of Brighton. The 2016 census recorded a population of 40 for the state suburb of Boyer.
