Boy Meets Girl (1998 Film)
''Boy Meets Girl'' is a 1998 romantic comedy fantasy film directed by Jerry Ciccoritti, starring Sean Astin and Emily Hampshire. Plot summary Angelina (Emily Hampshire) is a shy and whimsical waitress forced to leave her home in Italy to be married to a man she is not in love with in order to fulfill a family vow. After Angelina moves into a new neighborhood in Little Italy, Toronto, she is torn with the idea of marrying a man she is not in love with. However, in the days leading up to Valentine's Day, Angelina encounters Mike (Sean Astin) and the two seemingly are shot with Cupid's arrows. Angelina and Mike's searches for love come to an end after realizing how connected they truly are to each other. Jerry Ciccoritti
Jerry Ciccoritti (born August 5, 1956) is a Canadian film, television and theatre director. His ability to work in a number of genres and for many mediums has made him one of the most successful directors in the country. Biography Born in Toronto, Ciccoritti became active in amateur drama in high school and was one of the founders of Buddies in Bad Times theatre in 1978 and of the Rhubarb Theatre Festival in 1979. He attended the film program at York University but dropped out to work in the burgeoning Toronto film industry. He co-produced, co-wrote, and directed the low-budget horror film ''Psycho Girls'' (1985). Several other genre films followed, eventually leading to work in episodic television and television movies. Sook-Yin Lee is a Canadian broadcaster, musician, film director, and actress. She is a former MuchMusic VJ and a former radio host on CBC Radio. She has appeared in films, notably in the John Cameron Mitchell movie ''Shortbus''. Early and personal life Lee was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. She was the second daughter of a father from Hong Kong and a mother from Mainland China, Lee was raised as a devout Roman Catholic. Her father was a post-World War II orphan from Hong Kong, and her mother an escapee from Communist China who remained in and out of psychiatric institutions when Lee was young. She grew up within a strict, secretive and unstable family. When Lee was 15, her parents split up and Lee ran away from home, for a time living on the street before eventually living with a "community of lesbians and artists". Genie Award
The Genie Awards were given out annually by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television to recognize the best of Canadian cinema from 1980–2012. They succeeded the Canadian Film Awards (1949–1978; also known as the "Etrog Awards," for sculptor Sorel Etrog, who designed the statuette). Genie Award candidates were selected from submissions made by the owners of Canadian films or their representatives, based on the criteria laid out in the ''Genie Rules and Regulations'' booklet which is distributed to Academy members and industry members. Peer-group juries, assembled from volunteer members of the Academy, meet to screen the submissions and select a group of nominees. Academy members then vote on these nominations.
