Boxted House is a Grade II listed house in Boxted, Essex. It was built in about 1830. It was home to the advertising executive Bobby Bevan (1901-1974), the son of the painters Robert Polhill Bevan and Stanislawa de Karlowska, and his wife, Natalie Bevan Natalie Alice Bevan (; 22 May 190915 August 2007), was a British artist, muse, and collector. Boxted, Essex
Boxted is a village and civil parish in Essex, England. It is located approximately north of Colchester and northeast of the county city of Chelmsford. The village is in the borough of Colchester and in the parliamentary constituency of North Essex. There is a Parish council. The village was the site of a series of skirmishes between Parliamentary and Royalist troops in July 1648, known as the Battle of Boxted Heath. Two historic manors are located in the parish: Boxted Hall and Rivers Hall, which are both mentioned in the Domesday records. Boxted was split into two settlements, "Boxted" and "Boxted Cross", during the plague when non infected villagers moved across the valley from 'Old Boxted' to escape infection. A timber-framed cottage called Songers is reputedly the oldest private dwelling in Essex dating back to 1280. Robert Polhill Bevan
Robert Polhill Bevan (5 August 1865 – 8 July 1925) was a British painter, drawing, draughtsman and lithographer. He was a founding member of the Camden Town Group, the London Group, and the Cumberland Market Group. Early life He was born in Brunswick Square, Hove, near Brighton, the fourth of six children of Richard Alexander Bevan (1834–1918), a banker, and Laura Maria Polhill. The Bevans had been a Quaker family with long associations with Barclays Bank. They were descended from Silvanus Bevan the Plough Court apothecary and Robert Barclay the Quaker Apologist. The family, who could trace direct descent from Iestyn ap Gwrgant, had left Wales in the 17th century and settled in London. His first teacher of drawing was Arthur Ernest Pearce, who later became head designer to Royal Doulton potteries. Natalie Alice Bevan (; 22 May 190915 August 2007), was a British artist, muse, and collector. She has been called, "one of the most beautiful and charismatic women of her generation". Early life She was born Natalie Alice Ackenhausen on 22 May 1909 at 2 Pembroke Cottages, Edwardes Square, Kensington, London, the eldest of three children of Kurt Bernhard Heinrich Carl Ackenhausen (1878/79–1954),a German textile merchant, and his wife, Alice Katherine Inchbold Ackenhausen, née Denny (d. 1964/65), a children's book illustrator. During the First World War, the family took up her mother's surname, Denny, and her father changed his given name to Court.
