Light Flyweight (-48kg)
Light flyweight, also known as junior flyweight or super strawweight, is a weight class in boxing. Professional boxing The weight limit at light flyweight in professional boxing is 108 pounds (49 kilograms). When New York legalized boxing in 1920, the law stipulated a "junior flyweight" class, with a weight limit of 99 pounds. When the National Boxing Association was formed in 1921, it also recognized this weight class. However, on January 19, 1922, the NBA decided to withdraw recognition of the junior flyweight division. On December 31, 1929, the New York State Athletic Commission also abolished the junior flyweight class. No champion had been crowned in this division prior to its abolition. The World Boxing Council (WBC) decided to resurrect this division in the 1970s. The first champion in this division was Franco Udella, who won the WBC title in 1975. Redouane Bouchtouk (born December 19, 1976) is a boxer from Morocco who participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics for his native North African country. At these games he was stopped in the first round of the Light Flyweight (48 kg) division by Colombia's Carlos José Tamara. He then qualified for the Athens Games by winning the silver medal at the 1st AIBA African 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Casablanca, Morocco. Thomas Essomba
Thomas Essomba (born 2 December 1987) is a Cameroonian-British professional boxer who held the Commonwealth flyweight title from 2015 to 2017. As an amateur he represented Cameroon at the 2012 Olympics, reaching the round of 16 of the light-flyweight bracket. Jesse Manyo Plange (born January 18, 1988) is a Ghanaian boxer who won silver at the 2007 All-Africa Games and qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games, he lost in the second round to a Welshman. At the 2007 All-Africa Games, he lost the final to Suleiman Bilali. At the World Championships he was defeated by Chinese Yang Bo. Suleiman Wanjau Bilali (born June 5, 1978) is a Kenyan light flyweight boxer. He has represented Kenya numerous times at international competitions. Bilali fought at the 2000 Summer Olympics, where he was edged out by Spain's eventual runner-up Rafael Lozano 10:11 in the quarterfinal. At the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester he lost by technical knockout to India's Muhammed Ali Qamar. He won the 2003 All-Africa Games. Bilali participated in neither the 2004 Summer Olympics nor in the Commonwealth Games 2006.
