The men's flyweight event was part of the boxing programme at the 1960 Summer Olympics The 1960 Summer Olympics ( it, Giochi Olimpici estivi del 1960), officially known as the Games of the XVII Olympiad ( it, Giochi della XVII Olimpiade) and commonly known as Rome 1960 ( it, Roma 1960), were an international multi-sport event held .... The weight class was the lightest contested, and allowed boxers of up to 51 kilograms to compete. The competition was held from 25 August to 5 September 1960. 33 boxers from 33 nations competed. Competition format The competition was a straight single-elimination tournament, with no bronze medal match (two bronze medals were awarded, one to each semifinal loser). PalaLottomatica, formerly known as Palazzo dello Sport or PalaEUR, is a multi-purpose sports and entertainment arena in Rome, Italy. It is located in the heart of the well known modern EUR complex. History Palazzo dello Sport was designed by architect Marcello Piacentini, in 1957, and its reinforced concrete dome was engineered by Pier Luigi Nervi. It was constructed in two years, from 1958–1960, in time for the 1960 Summer Olympics. Henryk Kukier
Henryk Jerzy Kukier (1 January 1930 – 5 December 2020) was a Polish boxer. Career Kukier won the gold medal in the Flyweight class at the 1953 European Amateur Boxing Championships in Warsaw, and the bronze medal at the 1955 European Amateur Boxing Championships in West Berlin. Kukier was a Polish champion six times (1953–1957 and 1960). He competed thrice in the Boxing at the Summer Olympics (1952, 1956, 1960). Between 1951 and 1960 he was on the Polish national team and fought 35 times, winning 25 bouts and losing 10. Death Kukier was born in Lublin.
