Oussama Mordjane
Osama ( ar, أسامة, ), alternatively Oussama and Usama, is an Arabic masculine given name. The name derives from the Arabic stem اسم A-S-M Alif Sin Mim "name" and means more or less "the one with a name". It is one of many Arabic male given names for "lion", the lion being considered as an animal with fame. From this point of view, ''sama'' is equivalent of the Latin name ''Augustus'', "majestic". In Hebrew the root is reduced to שם from Proto-Semitic *šim-, from Proto-Afroasiatic *(ʔi-)sim- ("name"), each denoting some aspect of the animal. In popularity, the name has declined drastically since 2001, mainly due to negative associations with al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden. Founded before the fifth century BC, it is the capital of the Province of Tarragona, and part of Tarragonès and Catalonia. History Origins One Catalan legend holds that Tarragona was named for ''Tarraho'', eldest son of Tubal in c. 2407 BC; another (derived from Strabo and Megasthenes) attributes the name to ' Tearcon the Ethiopian', a seventh-century BC pharaoh who campaigned in Spain. The real founding date of Tarragona is unknown. The city may have begun as an Iberian town called or , named for the Iberian tribe of the region, the Cossetans, though the identification of Tarragona with Kesse is not certain. William Smith suggests that the city was probably founded by the Phoenicians, w ...
