Boxing At The 2015 Pan American Games
Boxing competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto were held from July 18 to 25 at the General Motors Centre (Oshawa Sports Centre) in Oshawa. Due to naming rights the arena was known as the latter for the duration of the games. A total of thirteen boxing events will be held: ten for men and three for women. Venue The competitions will take place at the General Motors Centre (Oshawa Sports Centre) located about in the city of Oshawa, about 60 kilometers from the athletes village. The arena will have a reduced capacity (from its normal of about 5,500) of about 3,000 people per session. The venue will also host weightlifting competitions earlier during the games. New rules To harmonise with the rules of amateur boxing decided by the Association Internationale de Boxe Amateur (AIBA), Pan Am Boxing will feature new rules. General Motors Centre
The Tribute Communities Centre, formerly known as the General Motors Centre or GM Centre, GMC for short, is a multi-purpose arena located in downtown Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, which opened in November 2006. The arena was constructed to replace the Oshawa Civic Auditorium. The main tenant is the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League, and formerly the Durham TurfDogs of the Canadian Lacrosse League. It features the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame, Prospects Bar and Grill, an Oshawa Generals retail store, executive seating and special club seats. The name was changed to Tribute Communities Centre on November 1, 2016. History The Tribute Communities Centre is owned by the city of Oshawa. Joselito Velázquez
Joselito Velázquez Altamirano (born 30 September 1993) is a Mexican professional boxer. As an amateur he won gold medals at the 2011 and 2015 Pan American Games, and represented Mexico at the 2016 Olympics. Early life Velázquez was born in the city of Oaxaca, Mexico, but had to leave at the age of two because of his family's financial needs. He then moved with his family to Cancun, where he grew up. His father worked as a cab driver and a baker, while his mother worked at a daycare. Velázquez was introduced to boxing through his older brother, who was a member of the Quintana Roo state boxing team. He decided to practice the sport after seeing his brother compete in a national tournament. Joselito also played soccer as a teenager. He was part of Cruz Azul's U-14 team.
