Boxhead Ensemble
Boxhead Ensemble is a musical collective founded by composer Michael Krassner. The project began in 1991 to record music for the independent film ''The Original Pantry Café''. The group features an ever rotating line-up, which as included Edith Frost, David Grubbs, Glenn Kotche, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Jim O'Rourke, Doug McCombs, Scott Tuma, Mick Turner, Ken Vandermark, Jim White. Krassner is the only consistent member and Lonberg-Holm has contributed the most frequently to the project. History Boxhead Ensemble was formed Los Angeles, California, in 1991 when Michael Krassner was commissioned by Braden King and Larry Stuckey to record the music for their independent student documentary ''The Original Pantry Café''. Post-rock
Post-rock is a form of experimental rock characterized by a focus on exploring textures and timbre over traditional rock song structures, chords, or riffs. Post-rock artists are often instrumental, typically combining rock instrumentation with electronics. The genre emerged within the indie and underground music scene of the 1980s and early 1990s. However, due to its abandonment of rock conventions, it often bears little resemblance musically to contemporary indie rock, borrowing instead from diverse sources including ambient, electronica, jazz, krautrock, dub, and minimalist classical. Artists such as Talk Talk and Slint have been credited with producing foundational works in the style in the early 1990s. Edith Frost
Edith Frost (born August 18, 1964) is an American singer-songwriter who describes her music as "pensive countrified psychedelia". Born in San Antonio, Texas, Frost moved to Brooklyn in 1990 where she played in the country bands ''The Holler Sisters'', ''The Marfa Lights'', and ''Edith and Her Roadhouse Romeos''. In 1996, she moved to Chicago after signing to the city's Drag City label, which released her demo as a self-titled EP. A second EP, ''Ancestors'', followed in 1997. Her debut album '' Calling Over Time'' was released in 1997, and featured Jim O'Rourke, David Grubbs, and Sean O'Hagan of Stereolab and the High Llamas. This was followed by '' Telescopic'' in 1998, which was produced by Neil Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema from the band Royal Trux. ''Here'' is a 2011 American drama adventure film directed by Braden King who also co-wrote the movie with Dani Valent. The film stars Ben Foster and Lubna Azabal. Synopsis Will Shepard (Foster), a solitary young man who lives in the San Francisco bay area, travels to Armenia to undertake a mapping survey in the rural areas of the country to confirm ground features and coordinates with GPS satellite data. There he meets Gadarine Nazarian (Azabal), a spirited Armenian ex-pat and professional photographer, who has returned home to face family issues. She decides to accompany Will on his journey, acting as his interpreter, while taking photographs too. They fall in love as they wander the countryside. Their affair lasts several days, but he has to move on. Production The film was shot on location in Armenia.
