Bowen Southwell
Bowen Southwell (23 March 1713 – 1796) was an Irish politician. He was the third son of William Southwell and his wife Lucy Bowen, daughter of William Bowen. His uncles were Thomas Southwell, 1st Baron Southwell and Richard Southwell. Southwell entered the Irish House of Commons for Downpatrick in 1755, representing the constituency until 1760. After the death of his brother Edward in 1736, he inherited his family's estates in Ireland. William Southwell
William Southwell (1669 – 23 January 1720) was an Irish politician and British Army officer. Background He was the third son of Richard Southwell of Castle Matrix, Co. Limerick, and his wife Lady Elizabeth O'Brien, daughter of Murrough O'Brien, 1st Earl of Inchiquin. His older brothers were Thomas Southwell, 1st Baron Southwell and Richard Southwell. During the Glorious Revolution of 1689, he and his brother were attainted by the parliament of King James II of England. Career Southwell entered the British Army under King William III of England in 1693. P. 304. Thomas Southwell, 1st Baron Southwell PC (Ire) (1665 – 4 August 1720), known as Sir Thomas Southwell, 2nd Baronet from 1681 to 1717, was an Irish peer and politician. Background He was the oldest son of Richard Southwell, son of Sir Thomas Southwell, 1st Baronet, and his wife Lady Elizabeth O'Brien, daughter of Murrough O'Brien, 1st Earl of Inchiquin. Richard Southwell (c. 1671 – 17 September 1729) was an Irish politician. He was the fifth and youngest son of Richard Southwell and his wife Lady Elizabeth O'Brien, daughter of Murrough O'Brien, 1st Earl of Inchiquin and Elizabeth St. Leger. The Irish House of Commons was the lower house of the Parliament of Ireland that existed from 1297 until 1800. The upper house was the House of Lords. The membership of the House of Commons was directly elected, but on a highly restrictive franchise, similar to the unreformed House of Commons in contemporary England and Great Britain. Catholics were disqualified from sitting in the Irish parliament from 1691, even though they comprised the vast majority of the Irish population. The Irish executive, known as the Dublin Castle administration, under the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, was not answerable to the House of Commons but to the British government. Charles Cornwallis, 1st Earl Cornwallis (29 March 170023 June 1762), styled The Honourable Charles Cornwallis until 1722 and known as The Lord Cornwallis between 1722 and 1753, was a British peer. Background Cornwallis was the son of Charles Cornwallis, 4th Baron Cornwallis, by Lady Charlotte, daughter of Richard Butler, 1st Earl of Arran. Edward Cornwallis and Frederick Cornwallis were his younger brothers. He was admitted to Clare College, Cambridge in 1717. Career Cornwallis succeeded his father in the barony in 1722. Edward Southwell (1705–1755)
Edward Southwell Jr. (16 June 1705 – 16 March 1755) of King's Weston, Gloucestershire, was an Anglo-Irish Whig politician who sat in the Parliament of Ireland from 1727 to 1755 and in the British House of Commons from 1739 to 1754. Southwell was the son of Edward Southwell (1671–1730) and Elizabeth Cromwell, 8th Baroness Cromwell and the grandson of Sir Robert Southwell. He was educated at Westminster School from 1715 to 1716 and matriculated at Queen's College, Oxford in 1721. He travelled abroad from 1723. Southwell sat in the Irish House of Commons for Downpatrick from 1727 until his death.
