Bounkiling Department is one of the 45 departments of Senegal The 14 regions of Senegal are subdivided into 46 departments and 103 arrondissements (neither of which have administrative function) and by ''collectivités locales'' (the 14 ''régions'', 110 ''communes'', and 320 ''communautés rurales'') whic ..., one of the three making up the Sédhiou Region. It was created in 2008 along with the Sédhiou Region, which was formerly part of the Kolda Region. The department has two communes: Bounkiling and Madina Wandifa. The 14 regions of Senegal are subdivided into 46 departments and 103 arrondissements (neither of which have administrative function) and by ''collectivités locales'' (the 14 ''régions'', 110 ''communes'', and 320 ''communautés rurales'') which elect administrative officers. Sédhiou Region
Sédhiou Region is a region of Senegal located in the southwest of the country in the natural region called Casamance. It was historically a department of the Kolda Region until 2008. It is located between the Kolda Region in the east and the Ziguinchor Region in the west. Bounkiling is a town of commune status in the Sédhiou Region of Senegal. It is the capital of the Bounkiling Department. The population in 2013 was 6,416, an increase from the 2,651 counted in 2002.
