Michael Holbrook Penniman Jr. (born 18 August 1983), known professionally as Mika ( , stylised as MIKA), is a singer-songwriter born in Beirut, Lebanon, and raised in Paris and London. Background and recording After his first two records were described as campy affairs, Mika's third release ''The Origin of Love'' marked a drastic shift in musical style for the songwriter. It was founded by Avery Lipman and Monte Lipman as an independent label in 1995, and was acquired by UMG in 2000.
