Boulos Nassif Borkhoche
Boulos Nassif Borkhoche (born Paul Victor Borkhoche, SMSP (7 October 1932 – 4 February 2021) was an Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Bosra and Hauran in Syria. Life Boulos Nassif Borkhoche came from an old established and wealthy family in Joun, Lebanon, France. He was ordained to the priesthood on 14 September 1960 as Chaplain of the Missionary Society of Saint Paul. On 14 June 1983, the Synod of Bishops of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church elected him as the successor to Archbishop Nicolas Naaman as Archbishop of Bosra and Hauran. The Patriarch of Antioch Archbishop Maximos V Hakim ordained him to the episcopate on 3 July 1983, together with the co-consecrators Archbishop Habib Bacha and Archbishop Joseph Raya. Joseph Raya
Joseph Raya ( ar, يوسف رايا) (15 August 1916 – 10 June 2005) was a Lebanese-born Melkite Catholic archbishop, theologian, civil rights advocate. He served as metropolitan of Akko, Haifa, Nazareth and All Galilee from 1968 until 1974 and was particularly known for his commitment to seeking reconciliation between Christians, Jews and Muslims. He was also a leading advocate of celebrating the Divine Liturgy in vernacular languages. Melkite Greek Catholic Bishops
The term Melkite (), also written Melchite, refers to various Eastern Christian churches of the Byzantine Rite and their members originating in the Middle East. The term comes from the common Central Semitic root ''m-l-k'', meaning "royal", and by extension "imperial" or loyal to the Byzantine Emperor. The term acquired religious connotations as denominational designation for those Christians who accepted imperial religious policies, based on Christological resolutions of the Council of Chalcedon (451). Nikolaki Sawaf (born 8 February 1943 in Aleppo, Syria) is the former archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Latakia from 2000 to 2021. Life Nikolaki Sawaf was on April 15, 1968 ordained priest. On 14 January 2000, Sawaf was appointed and succeeded Fares Maakaroun as Archbishop of Latakia. Habib Bacha, SMSP (June 24, 1931 in Tyre, Lebanon – 23 November 1999) was Melkite Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Beirut and Byblos. Priests and promotion Habib Bacha received his priestly ordination on 29 June 1956 leading church offices. Previously, he was at the seminary of St. Paul in Jerusalem, where completed his studies in theology and philosophy. Bacha was appointed in 1975 Melkite Archbishop of Beirut and Byblos and continued his studies in Rome after episcopal ordination. He received his title of Doctor in Theology in Rome and at the same time he taught at the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies, where he was secretary for Islam. Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Bosra and Hauran (in Latin: Archeparchy Bostrena et Auranensis) is an archeparchy of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church with its territory located in Syria. It is currently governed by Archeparch Nicolas Antiba, BA. Territory and statistics The archeparchy includes the region of Hawran, in southern Syria, bordering the states of Israel and Jordan. Its archeparchial seat is the city of Khabab, where the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Dormition is located. The territory is divided into 31 parishes and has 27,000 baptized. Maximos V Hakim
Maximos V Hakim ( ar, ماكسيموس الخامس حكيم; May 18, 1908, in Tanta, Egypt – June 29, 2001, Beirut, Lebanon) was elected Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and Alexandria and Jerusalem of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church in 1967 and served until 2000. He guided the church through turbulent changes in the Middle East and rapid expansion in the Western hemisphere. Life Nicolas Naaman was ordained priest on August 15, 1937, and was a member of the Missionary Society of Saint Paul (SMSP).
