Aristide Boucicaut
Aristide Boucicaut (; July 14, 1810 – December 26, 1877) was a French entrepreneur who created ''Le Bon Marché'', the first modern department store. Background Born in Bellême, in the Orne department on 14 July 1810, Boucicaut was the son of the owner of a small shop that sold fabrics, ribbons and other items for a woman's wardrobe. Career Early career Boucicaut worked in the family shop, then, at the age of 18, as a street vendor selling fabrics. In 1834 he moved to Paris and went to work in a novelty store on rue de Bac, the Petit Saint-Thomas, which sold women's clothing, hats, fabrics and other items. He began as a salesperson of shawls, but because of his diligence was soon promoted to head of the department. Au Bon Marché Videau In 1848, the Petit Saint-Thomas closed. Boucicaut Master
The Boucicaut Master or Master of the Hours for Marshal Boucicaut was an anonymous French or Flemish miniaturist and illuminator active between 1400 and 1430 in Paris. He worked in the International Gothic style. He is named after his illustrated book of hours for Jean II Le Meingre Boucicaut, Marshal of France, created between 1410 and 1415, now in the Musée Jacquemart-André in Paris. The Master of Boucicaut was a contemporary of the Limbourg brothers and with them belonged to the most important and influential illuminators of manuscripts of the period in Northern Europe. He was probably the head of a productive workshop or studio in which artists fulfilled commissions for the court, the aristocracy and wealthy citizens. It is known that the artist also collaborated with the equally active Bedford Master in Paris. Jean II Le Maingre (Old French: Jehan le Meingre), also known as Boucicaut (28 August 1366 – 21 June 1421), was a French knight and military leader. Renowned for his military skill and embodiment of chivalry, he was made a marshal of France. Biography He was the son of Jean I Le Maingre, also called Boucicaut and likewise a marshal of France. He became a page at the court of Charles V of France, and at the age of 12 he accompanied Louis II, Duke of Bourbon, in a campaign against Normandy. At age 16 he was knighted by Louis on the eve of the Battle of Roosebeke (27 November 1382). In 1383, he began the first of his journeys that would take up more than twenty years of his life. In 1384, he undertook his first journey to Prussia, in order to assist the Teutonic Order in their war against the pagan Lithuanians, who would convert to Roman Catholicism in 1386. Jean Michel Alexandre Boucicaut (born 18 November 1981), known as Alexandre Boucicaut, is a Haitian former footballer who played as a midfielder for the Haiti national team. Club career Boucicaut played 47 games from 2000 to 2004 for Violette AC in the Haitian First Division, scoring 22 goals during his four years with the popular Haitian side. Jean I Le Maingre, also called Boucicaut (c. 1310 – 15 March 1367), Marshal of France, was a 14th century French noble. Life In June 1340, Meingre accompanied the expedition of John, Duke of Normandy at the head of an army, attempting by force to capture the town of Valenciennes, Hainaut. The army was repulsed by the citizens of Valenciennes, the French army was then attacked by Hainaut army led by Gerard de Verchain, Seneschal of Hainaut. while attacking the town of Trith. Once again, the French are attacked by the Seneschal of Hainaut. During the ensuing action, Meingre is captured and is taken as a prisoner to Valenciennes.
