In 2021, its population was 300,305 and its seat is the settlement of Bouaflé. The sub-prefectures of Ivory Coast, sub-prefectures of the department are Bégbessou, Bonon, Bouaflé, N'Douffoukankro, Pakouabo, Tibéita, and Zaguiéta. History Bouaflé Department was created in 1969 as one of the 24 new departments that were created to take the place of the six departments that were being abolished. It was created from territory that was formerly part of Centre Department (Ivory Coast), Centre Department. Using current boundaries as a reference, the department occupied the same territory that is today Marahoué Region. The regions of Ivory Coast (french: régions de la Côte d'Ivoire) are the second-level subdivisions of Ivory Coast. There are 31 regions, and each region is subdivided into two or more departments, the third-level division in Ivory Coast. Two to four regions were combined to make up a district, the first-level subdivision, that was abolished in 2014. The two autonomous districts of Ivory Coast are not divided into regions. Centre Department (Ivory Coast)
Centre Department was one of the original four departments of Ivory Coast. It was established in 1961, along with Nord Department, Sud-Est Department, and Sud-Ouest Department. During Centre Department's existence, departments were the first-level administrative subdivisions of Ivory Coast.
