Phyllis Bottome
Phyllis Forbes Dennis ( ; 31 May 1884 – 22 August 1963) was a British novelist and short story writer. Life and career Bottome was born in 1882, in Rochester, Kent, the daughter of an American clergyman, Rev. William MacDonald Bottome, and an Englishwoman, Mary (Leatham) Bottome. In 1901, following the death of her sister Wilmett of the same disease, Bottome was diagnosed with tuberculosis. She travelled to St Moritz in the hope that this would improve her health as mountain air was perceived as better for patients with tuberculosis. In 1917, in Paris, she married Alban Ernan Forbes Dennis, a British diplomat working firstly in Marseilles and then in Vienna as Passport Control Officer, a cover for his real role as MI6 Head of Station with responsibility for Austria, Hungary and Yugoslavia. Margaret McDonald Bottome (, McDonald; December 29, 1827 – November 14, 1906) was an American reformer, organizational founder, and author. She was engaged in religious work in Brooklyn, and for more than a quarter of a century, she gave Bible talks to the society women of New York City. Out of these experiences grew the order of the King's Daughters, which she founded and for which she was annually chosen president until her death. She was the author of several books, made a large number of contributions to religious magazines. Early life and education Margaret McDonald was born in New York City, December 29, 1827. Her parents, William and Mary (Willis) McDonald, were of Scottish ancestry. She was the oldest of 18 siblings. McDonald lived in Brooklyn from her childhood. Peter Bottome Deery (28 December 1937 – 14 February 2016) was a Venezuelan businessman. He was shareholder and the General Director of Venezuelan corporation Empresas 1BC. Biography His parents were Robert Bottome and Kathleen Deery. Later, Katherine Deery married William H. Phelps Jr., founder of Venezuelan TV station RCTV. Peter Bottome Deery was the brother of Robert Bottome Deery, owner of VenEconomy, a consultancy company providing financial, political and economic data in Venezuela. In 1959, Peter Bottome became director of the radio station Radio Caracas Radio. He gave the radio station a new style focused on broadcasting American music.
