Alexander Boteler
Alexander Robinson Boteler (May 16, 1815 – May 8, 1892) was a nineteenth-century planter turned businessman, as well as artist, writer, lawyer, Confederate States of America, Confederate officer, philanthropist and politician from Shepherdstown, West Virginia, Shepherdstown in what was initially Virginia and became West Virginia in the American Civil War. Early life and education Born in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, Shepherdstown, Virginia (now West Virginia) in 1815, to the former Helen Robinson and her husband Dr. Henry Boteler (1779-1836). Alexander Boteler's maternal great-grandfather was the painter, soldier and naturalist Charles Willson Peale. Arnold Le Boteler
Arnold le Boteler, the first recorded 'lord' of the Welsh village of Pembrey, was a late 11th and early 12th century Norman squire with a penchant for property development. He established the manor house and estate which is now known as Court Farm, Pembrey during the reign of William the Conqueror. Earlier, he had acquired Dundryfan manor from his lord, Maurice de Londres, for services rendered, and had built the first stone building, Dunraven Castle, on the site. Arnold's service to Maurice de Londres was the defence of Ogmore Castle while the lord defended against Welsh insurgence, led by Princess Gwenllian ferch Gruffydd, at Kidwelly Castle. The le Boteler/Butler family crest can be seen in plasterwork in St. Illtud's Church, Pembrey. John Boteler, 1st Baron Boteler of Brantfield, (''c.'' 1566 – 27 May 1637) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1625 to 1626. The Butlers of Hertfordshire claimed descent from Ralph le Boteler, butler to Robert de Beaumont, Count of Meulan and Earl of Leicester in the time of Henry I, and by the 15th century they had been seated at Watton for some time. Life Boteler was the son and heir of Sir Henry Boteler of Hatfield Woodhall and of Brantfield, Hertfordshire, by his first wife, Catharine, daughter of Robert Waller, of Hadley, Middlesex. He was knighted at Greenwich in July 1607, and succeeded his father on 20 January 1609, aged 43. He was created baronet of Hatfield Woodhall on 12 April 1620. John Boteler Parker
Major-General John Boteler Parker (29 May 1786 – 25 March 1851) was a notable British Army general of the early 19th century. He saw action at the Battle of Waterloo, and later became Commandant of the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. Career Parker was the second son of Admiral Sir Hyde Parker and Anne Boteler. Joining the army, Parker served in the Walcheren Campaign in 1809, For his services at the battle, he was nominated to be appointed a Companion of the Most Honourable Military Order of the Bath, upon the recommendation of Field Marshal the Duke of Wellington. He was second captain to the Company of Gentlemen Cadets from 28 December 1821 to 18 January 1837. He lived for a time in Government House (situated at the junction of Woolwich New Road and Nightingale Place) in Woolwich, commissioning architect John Douglas Hopkins to enhance the building in 1840. Ralph Boteler, 1st Baron Sudeley KG (c.1394 – 2 May 1473) was an English baron and aristocrat who rose up through the ranks of the courts of King Henry V and Henry VI to become the Lord High Treasurer of England. He fought in the Hundred Years’ War and was made the Captain of Calais; and was later present at the execution of Joan of Arc. Samuel Boteler Bristowe QC (5 October 1822 – 5 March 1897) was an English barrister and Liberal Party politician from Nottinghamshire. He sat in the House of Commons from 1870 to 1880, and later became a county court judge, surviving a murder attempt in 1889. Early life Bristowe was the son of Samuel Ellis Bristowe of Beesthorpe Hall, near Caunton in Nottinghamshire and his wife Mary Ann Fox. He was educated at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, where he graduated with a BA degree in 1845, receiving his MA in 1848. He was called to the bar in 1849 at the Inner Temple, and was appointed in 1869 as Recorder of Newark-on-Trent. He became a Queen's Counsel (QC) in 1872, and was a member of the Council for Legal Education as well as being one of the editors of "Burn's Justice of the Peace". Wade Boteler (October 3, 1888 – May 7, 1943) was an American film actor and writer. He appeared in more than 430 films between 1919 and 1943. Biography He was born in Santa Ana, California, and died in Hollywood, California, from a heart attack. Boteler graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. After he graduated, he stayed there as a director until he joined the Army in World War I. For three years in the mid-1920s, he worked for Douglas MacLean's film company as both actor and writer. William Boteler
William Boteler ('' fl.'' 1640s and 1650s) was a member of the Parliament of England. After the English Civil War, he was appointed Major-General for Bedfordshire, Huntingdonshire, Northamptonshire and Rutland during the Rule of the Major-Generals. Early life He was born in Barnwell, Northamptonshire, the son of Noel or Neville Boteler; Ivan Roots considers that the clergyman Edward Boteler (died 1670) was his brother. Political career In April 1640, Boteler was elected MP for Bedford in the Short Parliament in a double return and was taken off. He became a Colonel of Horse (cavalry) in the New Model Army. He was zealous and uncompromising in his hostility to his religious and political enemies, and was a severe persecutor of Quakers in Northamptonshire. In 1656 he advocated that James Nayler should be stoned to death for blasphemy.
