Boswellia Boranensis
''Boswellia'' is a genus of trees in the order Sapindales, known for its fragrant resin. The biblical incense frankincense is an extract from the resin of the tree '' Boswellia sacra'', and is now produced also from '' B. frereana''. Frankincense The four main species of ''Boswellia'', ''B. sacra'' (synonyms ''B. carteri'' and ''B. bhaw-dajiana''), ''B. frereana'', ''B. papyrifera'', and ''B. serrata'', produce true frankincense, and each type of resin is available in various grades. The grades depend on the time of harvesting, and the resin is hand sorted for quality. Description ''Boswellia'' species are moderate-sized flowering plants, including both trees and shrubs, and are native to tropical regions of Africa and Asia. William Roxburgh FRSE FRCPE Linnean Society of London, FLS (3/29 June 1751 – 18 February 1815) was a Scottish people, Scottish surgeon and botanist who worked extensively in India, describing species and working on economic botany. He is known as the founding father of Indian botany. He published numerous works on Indian botany, illustrated by careful drawings made by Indian artists and accompanied by taxonomic descriptions of many plant species. Apart from the numerous species that he named, many species were named in his honour by his collaborators. Early life He was born on 3 June 1751 on the Underwood estate near Craigie, South Ayrshire, Craigie in Ayrshire and christened on 29 June 1751 at the nearby church at Symington, South Ayrshire, Symington. His father may have worked in the Underwood estate or he may have been the illegitimate son of a well-connected family.
