Bostancık, Yüksekova
Bostancık () is a village in the Yüksekova District of Hakkâri Province in Turkey. The village is populated by Kurds of the Doski tribe and had a population of 522 in 2023. Van Yüzüncü Yıl University
Van Yüzüncü Yıl University () is a university in Van, Turkey. The name was "Yüzüncü Yıl University" until June 15, 2017. History Yüzüncü Yıl University was founded on July 20, 1982, by the Decree Law No 41. However, the attempts to create a university in the east region of Turkey had started much earlier. Atatürk, the president of republic of that period, sent Mustafa Necati, of The Ministry of Education, to examine on-site the situation in Van in 1927. Mustafa Necati found in favour of the foundation of a university in Van. Ferit Nur, the teacher, was sent to Van and was asked to transform the present middle school into a high school and to form the kernel of the planned university. Yüksekova District
Yüksekova District is a district in the Hakkâri Province of Turkey. Its seat is the city Yüksekova. Its area is 2,547 km2 and had a population of 121,969 people in 2023. It borders Iran to the east, and Kurdistan Region of Iraq to the south. History The district was historically an important trade route location due to its proximity to Iran. From the 1810s to Sayfo in 1915, the entire population of around the Great Zab was East Syriac Assyrian people, Assyrian whose main occupation was agriculture that consisted of wheat, barley, cotton and tea. The local Assyrian population were descendants of people who found refuge among Kurds from the Golden Horde in the early fifteenth century. Hakkâri Province (, ; ), is a province in the southeast of Turkey. The administrative centre is the city of Hakkâri. Its area is 7,095 km2, and its population is 287,625 (2023). The current Governor is Ali Çelik. The province encompasses 8 municipalities, 140 villages and 313 hamlets. Kurdish–Turkish Conflict (1978–present)
From 1978 until 2025, the Republic of Turkey was in an armed conflict with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) ( Kurdish: ''Partiya Karkerên Kurdistanê'') as well as its allied insurgent groups, both Kurdish and non-Kurdish. The initial core demand of the PKK was its separation from Turkey to create an independent Kurdistan. Later on, the PKK abandoned separatism in favor of autonomy and/or greater political and cultural rights for Kurds inside the Republic of Turkey. Although the Kurdish-Turkish conflict had spread to many regions, most of the conflict took place in Northern Kurdistan, which corresponded with southeastern Turkey. The PKK's presence in Iraqi Kurdistan resulted in the Turkish Armed Forces carrying out frequent ground incursions and air and artillery strikes in the region, and its influence in Syrian Kurdistan led to similar activity there.
