Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet
Jacques-Bénigne Lignel Bossuet (; 27 September 1627 – 12 April 1704) was a French bishop and theologian, renowned for his sermons and other addresses. He has been considered by many to be one of the most brilliant orators of all time and a masterly French stylist. Court preacher to Louis XIV of France, Bossuet was a strong advocate of political absolutism and the divine right of kings. He argued that government was divinely ordained and that kings received sovereign power from God. He was also an important courtier and politician. The works best known to English speakers are three great orations delivered at the funerals of Queen Henrietta Maria, widow of Charles I of England (1669), of her daughter Henriette, Duchess of Orléans (1670), and of the outstanding military commander ''le Grand Condé'' (1687). Louis Bossuet
Louis Bossuet (22 February 1663 – 15 January 1742) was a French parlementaire. Life Bossuet was born in Dijon in 1663, the son of Antoine Bossuet (1624–1699), the seigneur of Azu, The Cosnée, and Vatronville Bonval, and Renée Madeleine Gaureault Mount (1644–1689), daughter of René de Nicolas Gaureault Mount, Marquis de la Perriere and Catherine of Hautoy. Bossuet's brother was Jacques Bénigne Bossuet (1664–1743), abbot of Savigny, and he was nephew by his father to another Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet, the Bishop of Meaux and godson of Louis de Bourbon, Prince of Condé. On 22 February 1700 Bossuet married Marguerite of Labriffe, daughter of Arnaud Labriffe II, Marquis de Ferrières-en-Brie, the Paris prosecutor in parliament, and Martha Agnes Potter Novion, in the chapel of the hotel Labriffe on rue Barbette, Paris. Musée Bossuet
The Musée Bossuet is the art and history museum of the town of Meaux, France. Situated in the old episcopal palace, it takes its name from the famous orator and theologian, Jacques-Bénigne Bossuet, Bishop of Meaux from 1681 to 1704. Buildings The episcopal palace Built in the twelfth century around 1160, then rebuilt in the seventeenth century, the episcopal palace architecturally is a mix of medieval and Renaissance styles. The most interesting example of eighteenth century work is the south facade of the palace, built of brick and stone, with large cross windows. The north facade is also representative of the ''Grand Siècle'' style. The lower rooms of the palace are the oldest, dating from the second half of the twelfth century.
