Alexander "Axel" Borst (born August 18, 1957 in Bad Neustadt an der Saale) is a German neurobiologist. He is director at the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology, now Max Planck Institute for Biological Intelligence, in foundation and head of the department Circuits – Computation – Models. Borst studied biology at the University of Würzburg, where he obtained his PhD as a member of Martin Heisenberg's group. He worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tübingen. Afterwards, he led an Independent Junior Research Group at the Friedrich Miescher Laboratory of the Max Planck Society. He was professor the University of California, Berkeley. In 2001, he was appointed director at the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology. Cathy King (born September 3, 1959), formerly Cathy Borst (Cathy's married name was Borst - when she divorced she went back to her maiden name of King) is a Canadian curler from St. Albert, Alberta. She is a former Canadian champion skip and world championship bronze medallist, and 2013 world senior champion. Curling career King was a national junior champion in 1977 and 1978, before there was a women's world junior championship. In 1988, she played for Alberta at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, losing in the final. She has been in seven Scotties Tournament of Hearts (1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2005, and 2006). Els Borst
Else "Els" Borst-Eilers (; 22 March 1932 – 8 February 2014) was a Dutch politician of the Democrats 66 (D66) party and physician. She was granted the honorary title of Minister of State on 21 December 2012. Borst worked as a medical researcher at the Academic Medical Center from 1958 until 1962 and as a physician from 1962 until 1976. Borst also worked as director of the blood bank at the University Medical Center Utrecht from 1969 until 1976. She served as the University Medical Center Utrecht hospital administrator from 1976 until 1985. Borst was selected as Vice Chairwoman of the Health Council, serving from 1 January 1986 until 22 August 1994. Everina Borst
Everina Johanna Borst (1888-1943, known as Moeder Sarov, married name Ruth Sarphatie) was a Belgian radio personality. She was known as "Mother Sarov" for her children's broadcasts on the radio station (SAROV) in the 1930s. She was a member of the Jewish Ladies Auxiliary of Antwerp and a nurse in the local hospital. Everina Borst was born on 18 January 1888 at Kraliningen near to Rotterdam in The Netherlands and married Gabriël Sarphatie, a Jewish diamond merchant, on 4 October 1917, taking the name Ruth Sarphatie after gioer. In 1923 they moved to the area of Ekeren, Antwerp. On 8 September 1942 their home was raided by the Waffen-SS, and Everina Borst and her husband were arrested. She was beaten and tortured by the SS. Hugo Borst (born 15 June 1962, Rotterdam) is a Dutch writer, editor, TV personality and critic (best known for his football critiques). Career Borst finished school when he was 18, the so-called havo. Although he never played professional football, he became a journalist for the magazine ''Voetbal International'' in 1985. After working for ''Voetbal International'' for six years he started to write for another magazine, ''Panorama''. He did that for three years only. Jeremiah Borst
Jeremiah W. Borst (1830 – August 10, 1890) was the first permanent white settler in the upper Snoqualmie Valley region. Born in 1830 to Willam Borst and Nancy Ann Bookout. Borst was raised in Tioga County, New York. In 1850, Borst traveled to California during the California Gold Rush. He used the proceeds to rent a farm near Sacramento. He moved to Seattle around 1858. His brother Joseph Borst had previously moved to Oregon Territory in 1846 and his sister Diana Borst Collins to Nisqually in 1847. In the spring of 1858, Borst was on his way to Eastern Washington over the Cedar River trail, decided that the Snoqualmie Valley was too good to pass up. He moved into an abandoned building at Fort Alden, at present Snoqualmie. He raised hogs and apples and carried the goods for sale back to Seattle. Lawrence Marion "Larry" Borst Jr. (July 16, 1927 – December 20, 2016) was an American veterinarian and politician. Borst was born in Champaign County, Ohio and graduated from North High School. He met and married Eldoris June Wood in 1948 and moved to South Bend, Indiana two years later upon earning a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Ohio State University. He then moved to Indianapolis in 1952 and began his own veterinary practice in 1954. In 1965, Borst became the founding leader of the Republican Action Committee. Peter Bouck Borst (23 June 1826 – 25 April 1882) was an active participant in the mid-19th century development of Page County, Virginia, serving as a lawyer, county delegate to Virginia's Secession Convention of 1861, and president of the Shenandoah Valley Railroad. Early life Borst was born and raised in Schoharie County, New York, the second son of U.S. Congressman Peter I. Borst and Catherine B. Borst. In 1847, he relocated from New York to Luray, Virginia, where he opened practice as a lawyer. Within a few years of his arrival, he met Isabella C. Almond, marrying her on 1 April 1851. Almond was a daughter of Edmund "Mann" Almond, a prominent Luray merchant and slaveholder (owning seven slaves in 1850, and five slaves in 1860).
