Borsonella
''Borsonella'' is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Borsoniidae. Description (Original description) The shell has a small, blunt nucleus of one or two whorls. The sculpture is chiefly spiral, feeble, except for one or two spiral carinae, sometimes with a few small riblets or beads on the principal carina. The periostracum is conspicuous, smooth or vermiculate. The siphonal canal is wide and very short. The outer lip is sharp, simple, arcuate. The columella is solid, with one strong, nearly horizontal plait continuous upon the whole axis. This axis is impervious, the operculum absent. Type Borsonia dalli There is never more than one plait in ''Borsonella'' ; in ''Cordieria'' Rouault, 1848, as restricted by Cossmann, there are never less than two. In '' Rouaultia'' the anal sulcus is narrow, sharp, and situated at the shoulder in the peripheral carina. Both Cordieria and typical ''Borsonia'' have a long and slender canal and the general aspect of '' ...

It contains eight Whorl (mollusc), whorls exclusive of the (lost) nucleus. The Suture (anatomy), suture is distinct with a slightly swollen margin. The axial Sculpture (mollusc), sculpture consists of (on the penultimate whorl about nine) nodular ribs, peripheral on the Spire (mollusc), spire, becoming obsolete on the body whorl, beginning in front of the fasciole and obscure beyond the periphery. The spiral sculpture consists of fine striae, visible only in occasional spots. The fasciole is somewhat constricted. Beside this there are faint traces of vermicular sculptu ...

The term is also sometimes used in a similar way to de ...

Borsonella Coronadoi
''Borsonella coronadoi'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Borsoniidae. Description The length of the shell attains 29 mm, its maximum diameter is 9 mm. (Original description) The slender shell is acute with about ten whorls. Its color is pinkish white, with a pale brown periostracum The periostracum ( ) is a thin, organic coating (or "skin") that is the outermost layer of the shell of many shelled animals, including molluscs and brachiopods. Among molluscs, it is primarily seen in snails and clams, i.e. in gastropods and .... The spire is longer than the aperture. The nuclear whorls are smooth, turgid, the subsequent turns carrying a rounded low keel, usually in front of the middle of the whorls forming the pire, the area between which and the suture is flatly impressed, the whorl in front gently rounded. On some of the early whorls the keel is slightly undulated, but not regularly nodulous. Besides the lines of growth, both ...

Borsonella Diegensis
''Borsonella diegensis'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Borsoniidae. Description Length of four whorls, 15.0 mm; of body whorl, 12.5 mm ; of aperture, 9.5 mm ; max. diam. 8.0 mm. (Original description) The small shell is stout, solid, decollate, with a whitish substratum and strong olivaceous periostracum. The four remaining whorls are closely coiled and have the aperture longer than the remaining portion of the spire. The sculpture consists of a strong spiral keel, peripheral on the spire with more or less nodulation (in cue specimen with fifteen small nodules on the penultimate whorl, but none on the body whorl; another has them obsolete on the spire), stronger on the earlier whorls when present, an obscure ridge in front of the suture, stronger on the earlier whorls. There is a faint spiral striation on the anal fasciole between the ridge and the keel. The whole surface is covered with a microscopic, close, impres ...

Borsonella Erosina
''Borsonella erosina'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Borsoniidae. Description The length of the shell attains 28 mm, the diameter 11.5 mm. (Original description) The fusiform shell is white, with an olive-gray more or less dehiscent dull periostracum. The nucleus is eroded. There are about seven subsequent whorls. The spire without the nucleus is about equal in length to the aperture. The suture is appressed. A little in front of it is the anal fasciole, which is narrow, slightly constricted, and ill-defined. In front of it and forming the shoulder of the whorl is a series of about twelve round-topped, slightly protractive, wavelike axial ribs, which only reach the suture in front of them in the earlier whorls, falling short of it in the later ones. Other axial sculpture consists of rather irregular, more or less prominent incremental lines. The spiral sculpture consists of three or more somewhat obscure incised lines over the ...

Borsonella Barbarensis
''Borsonella barbarensis'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Borsoniidae. Description (Original description) The solid shell consists of six or more whorls. The apex is decollated. The periostracum is greenish olive over a white substratum, yellowish on the columella. The suture is distinct with a convex spiral band between it and the fasciole. The spiral sculpture shows a pronounced keel in front of the fasciole, on the upper part of the spire this keel may be more or less undulated. In front of the keel the surface is retractively somewhat irregularly obliquely grooved, with wider flattish interspaces upon which is a minute protractively looped sculpture giving a vermicular aspect to the surface under a magnifier The ovate aperture is simple. The outer lip is thin and sharp. The anal sulcus is wide and moderately deep. The columella is straight, attenuated in front, the plait hidden behind it. The siphonal canal is short and wide, the o ...

Borsonella Agassizii
''Borsonella agassizii'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Borsoniidae. The snail was named after Louis_Agassiz. Description The length of the shell attains 23 mm. (Original description) The shell is biconic. The aperture is shorter than the spire. The apex is eroded but with six remaining whorls. The color of the shell is white and chalky under a pale greenish yellow periostracum. The suture is distinct, not appressed. The whorls are sloping flatly to the periphery which is marked by a rounded keel with (on the body whorl fifteen) obscure elongated swellings or undulations. The anal fasciole which is close to the suture is marked by lines of growth concavely arcuate, crossed by half a dozen spiral incised lines in the path of the sulcus. Below the keel are lines of growth, obscure traces of spiral distant incised lines, and numerous irregularly impressed striae, which are perhaps pathological. The base of the shell is moderately convex. ...
