Borsele
Borsele (; zea, label=Zeelandic, Bossele) is a municipality in the southwestern Netherlands on Zuid-Beveland. The name of the municipality is spelled with a single s; the name of the eponymous village is Borssele, spelled with double s. The municipality is mainly known for the Borssele Nuclear Power Station and the Central Storage for Radioactive Waste. Driewegen, Borsele
Driewegen is a village in the Netherlands, Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Borsele, and lies about 16 km southeast of Middelburg, Zeeland, Middelburg. Until 1970 it was an independent municipality. History The village was first mentioned in 1505 as ten Drienwegen, and means intersection of three roads. The ''polder'' which contains Driewegen was created around 1300, and a village has been known to exist since 1351. The Dutch Reformed church was built in 1678. The interior of the church was modified during the restoration of 1911 until 1914. The former town hall was located in a modified school building from 1913. Driewegen was home to 443 people in 1840. In 1927, a joint railway station with Ovezande was built on the Goes to Hoedekenskerke railway line. It closed in 1934. Oudelande
Oudelande is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Borsele, and lies about 19 km southeast of Middelburg. History The village was first mentioned in 1312 as "in Badickendorpe ende in Oudelant aen die zuudtzyde", and means "old land", because it was not flooded in 1014. Oudelande is a church village which developed on a ridge which was elevated to a ''terp'' (artificial living hill) in the 13th century. The circular structure was not completed on the northern side. The Dutch Reformed church was originally dedicated to Saint Eligius. The large tower dates from the 14th century. In 1769, a part of the church was demolished and rebuilt. Oudelande was home to 547 people in 1840. In 1927, a railway station was built on the Goes to Hoedekenskerke railway line. The station closed down in 1934. Ovezande
Ovezande is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Borsele, and lies about 16 km east of Middelburg. History The village was first mentioned in 1318 or 1319 Avesand, and means "sand (shoal) of Ave (male) or Ava (female)". Ovezande is a dike village which developed on the edge of the Oud- and Nieuw-Ovezandepolder. The village used to be a ''heerlijkheid''. Nisse, Netherlands
Nisse is a village in the Netherlands, Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Borsele, and lies about 17 km east of Middelburg, Zeeland, Middelburg. Nisse was a separate municipality until 1970, when it was merged with Borsele. Nisse is one of seventeen protected city- and village views in Zeeland. There is a 15th-century church with 14th century tower, containing frescoes and wood carvings. Hoedekenskerke
Hoedekenskerke is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Borsele, and lies about 22 km east of Middelburg. History The village was first mentioned around 1280 as Hoedekinskerke, and means "(private) church of Oedekin (Oede)". Hoedekenskerke is a road village along the Westerschelde which developed in the 12th century. In 1454, a ferry to Terneuzen was established. The ferry service closed in 1972. Heinkenszand is a town in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Borsele, and lies about 14 km east of Middelburg. Ellewoutsdijk ( zea, Ellesdiek) is a village in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is a part of the municipality of Borsele, and lies about 18 km east of Vlissingen. History The village was first mentioned in 1216 as Elewoldesdike, and means "dike of Elewold (person)". Ellewoutsdijk developed in the 11th century on a ridge on the former island of Borssele. Kwadendamme
