''Born Annoying'' is a compilation album of alternative metal band Helmet's early songs, released in 1995 by their old label, Amphetamine Reptile, a.k.a. AmRep. It is a collection of singles, B sides, compilation tracks, and other rarities spanning from the band's inception in 1989 until they were signed to Interscope Interscope Records is an American record label owned by Universal Music Group through its Interscope Geffen A&M imprint. However, the band did record two songs in 1993 that were released through AmRep; they are included here. Helmet (band)
Helmet is an American alternative metal band from New York City formed in 1989 by vocalist and lead guitarist Page Hamilton. Helmet has had numerous lineup changes with Hamilton as the only constant member. Since 2010, the band has consisted of Hamilton, drummer Kyle Stevenson, guitarist Dan Beeman and bassist Dave Case. Helmet has released eight studio albums and two compilation albums. After releasing their debut album, '' Strap It On'' (1990), on Amphetamine Reptile, Helmet signed to Interscope Records and released three albums for the label, including the highly successful '' Meantime'' (1992). Their next two albums ― ''Betty'' (1994) and ''Aftertaste'' (1997) ― were also successful, but did not match the critical or popular acclaim of ''Meantime''. Ozma (album)
''Ozma'' is the second studio album by the Melvins, released in 1989 through Boner Records. It is the first Melvins album to feature Lori Black on bass guitar and was recorded when the band relocated to San Francisco. Background and release "Love Thing" is a cover of the KISS song "Love Theme from KISS" from their eponymous debut album. "Creepy Smell" begins with the intro to the song "Living In Sin" from Gene Simmons' solo album. "Candy-O" is originally by the Cars and was a bonus track on the cassette and CD editions. The title refers to the character Princess Ozma from the Oz series of books. The CD version includes the entire '' Gluey Porch Treatments'' album. The track listing that is printed on the CD lists 34 tracks, but the CD only has 33 tracks. This is due to "Exact Paperbacks" and "Happy Grey or Black" being mistakenly combined on track 23 and not split into separate tracks as credited. John Stanier (drummer)
John Stanier is an American drummer who is best known for his work with alternative metal band Helmet. He currently plays in experimental rock band Battles and has previously performed with Tomahawk and The Mark of Cain, as well as performing on several releases as a studio musician. He is known for his speed, endurance, and precision as a performer. Stanier uses a Tama Artstar II drum kit. Biography Stanier grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Florida and is a veteran of the local hardcore music scene. He is known for having a drum corps background, but never actually marched a summer season. He played tenor drums for the Florida Wave Drum and Bugle Corps through a few years of their winter/spring camps. Henry Bogdan
Henry Bogdan (born February 4, 1961 in Riverside, California), is an American musician. He is perhaps best known as the original bass guitarist and a founding member of the alternative metal band, Helmet. Henry Bodgan played bass for all of Helmet's albums released up until 1997 which included '' Strap It On'', '' Meantime'', ''Betty'', and ''Aftertaste''. After Helmet broke up in 1998, Bogdan remained active in music but has largely moved away from the hard rock/metal scene. Now focusing on pedal steel and lap steel guitars, Bogdan has made guest appearances in a number of musically diverse bands, including playing the song " Ramblin' Man" with Hank Williams III for The Melvins' album ''The Crybaby''. Peter Mengede
Peter Mengede (born 1962) is an Australian musician best known as a former guitarist for alternative metal band Helmet. He formed his own group, Handsome, in 1995 with former members of Quicksand, Cro-Mags and Murphy's Law. They released one album in 1997 before disbanding. Page Hamilton (born May 18, 1960) is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter and record producer, mostly noted for his work with alternative metal band Helmet. Most of his work has been in the hard rock and alternative metal styles, though he trained in jazz guitar and has substantial connections with avant-garde music and film soundtrack composition. He studied guitar at the University of Oregon before moving to New York to study jazz guitar at the Manhattan School of Music. Killing Joke are an English rock music, rock band from Notting Hill, London, England, formed in 1979 by Jaz Coleman (vocals, keyboards), Paul Ferguson (drums), Geordie Walker (guitar) and Youth (musician), Youth (bass). ''Killing Joke'' is the debut studio album by English post-punk band Killing Joke, released on 5 October 1980 by E.G. via Polydor Records. It debuted at number 41 on the UK Albums Chart on 26 October 1980 and later peaked at number 39. Background and recording Singer and keyboardist Jaz Coleman met drummer Paul Ferguson in late 1978. In February 1979, they put an announcement in ''Melody Maker'' with the words: "Bass, lead, to tell the killing joke, we mean it man ! Total exploitation, no information, anonymity". They soon recruited guitarist Geordie Walker and then bassist Youth. Melvins
Melvins (sometimes The Melvins) are an American rock band formed in 1983 in Montesano, Washington. Their early work was key to the development of both grunge and sludge metal. Initially, they performed as a trio but later also sometimes appeared as a quartet, with either two drummers or two bassists. John Peel
John Robert Parker Ravenscroft (30 August 1939 – 25 October 2004), known professionally as John Peel, was an English disc jockey (DJ) and radio presenter. He was the longest-serving of the original BBC Radio 1 DJs, broadcasting regularly from 1967 until his death in 2004.
