Boris Yakovlev
Borys Yakovlev ( ua, Борис Яковлев, russian: Борис Александрович Яковлев,''Boris Aleksandrovich Yakovlev;'' 16 July 1945 – 23 June 2014) was a Soviet-Ukrainian race walker. Career Yakovlev competed in both the 20 km walk and the 50 km walk. He represented the Soviet Union at 20 km in the European Athletics Championships of 1969, 1971 and 1978, always placing in the top eight with a best result of fourth place in 1978. At the 1980 Summer Olympics he competed at the longer distance, but failed to finish. ''Track & Field News'' ranked Yakovlev in the world's top 10 at 20 kilometres four times between 1970 (the first year walkers were ranked) and 1979, when his ranking peaked at #3. Petrovsk, Saratov Oblast
Petrovsk (russian: Петро́вск) is a town in Saratov Oblast, Russia, located on the Medveditsa River (left tributary of the Don) northwest of Saratov, the administrative center of the oblast. The 1980 Summer Olympics (russian: Летние Олимпийские игры 1980, Letniye Olimpiyskiye igry 1980), officially known as the Games of the XXII Olympiad (russian: Игры XXII Олимпиады, Igry XXII Olimpiady) and commonly known as Moscow 1980 (russian: link=no, Москва 1980), were an international multi-sport event held from 19 July to 3 August 1980 in Moscow, Soviet Union, in present-day Russia. A sports coach is a person coaching in sport, involved in the direction, instruction and training of a sports team or athlete. History The original sense of the word ''coach'' is that of a horse-drawn carriage, deriving ultimately from the Hungarian city of Kocs where such vehicles were first made. Students at the University of Oxford in the early nineteenth century used the slang word to refer to a private tutor who would drive a less able student through his examinations just like horse driving. Britain took the lead in upgrading the status of sports in the 19th century. For sports to become professionalized, "coacher" had to become established. Daniel Bautista Rocha (born August 4, 1952) is a Mexican former track and field athlete and Olympic champion. He was born in El Salado, San Luis Potosí, El Salado, San Luis Potosí. In his relatively short career, Bautista dominated the walk, on the track as well as in road events. He won international attention in 1975 when he won the 20 km walk at the Pan-American Games in his native Mexico City, which made him among the favorites for the Olympic games the following year. At the 1976 Summer Olympic games in Montreal he won the gold ahead of two East German athletes, Hans-Georg Reimann who won silver, and defending Olympic champion Peter Frenkel who took bronze. Bautista was so dehydrated after the event that he had to drink ten cans of soft drink before he could produce enough urine for the drug test that he had to take. Anatoliy Vasilyevich Solomin (russian: Анатолий Васильевич Соломин; born 2 July 1952) is a former Soviet Ukrainian race walker. Solomin competed in men's 20 km walk at the 1980 Summer Olympics and contended for the gold medal, but was disqualified from the lead shortly before the finish. He was European indoor champion in men's 5000 m walk in 1983 and briefly held the 20 km world best. He was born in Komarovka in Penza Oblast. Career ''Track & Field News'' ranked Solomin in the world's top 10 at 20 km seven times between 1977 and 1984. In July 1978 he walked 20 km in 1:23:30 in Vilnius, breaking the unofficial world record of Mexico's Daniel Bautista by ten seconds.
