Boris Nzebo
Boris Nzebo, born in Port-Gentil in 1979, is a visual artist who lives and works in Douala, Cameroon. Biography Boris Nzebo primary studies took place in Libreville in Gabon. Arriving in Cameroon, he began by custom painting signs for hairdressing and beauty salons. Then he gave that up to devote himself exclusively to art in the early 2000s. Painting for advertising initially has left its mark on his artistic identity. As a self-taught artist, he trained in Douala with artists Koko Komégné, one of the pioneers of contemporary art in Cameroon, Hervé Yamguen and in workshops organized by Goddy Leye at ArtBakery in Bonendale near Douala, where he did a residency in 2007. During this residency, he mingled with different mediums: video, photo, installation and performance. He also submerged himself into the works of Roy Lichtenstein, Jack Mitchell, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Banksy and Takashi Murakami, whom he particularly likes. Port-Gentil
Port-Gentil () or Mandji is the second-largest city of Gabon, and it is a leading seaport. It is the center of Gabon's petroleum and timber industries. The city is located on a delta island in the Ogooue delta with no bridges to the mainland. Nearby Cape Lopez is Gabon's westernmost point. As of 2013 census, it had a population of 136,462. Banksy is a pseudonymous England-based street artist, political activist and film director whose real name and identity remain unconfirmed and the subject of speculation. Active since the 1990s, his satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine dark humour with graffiti executed in a distinctive stenciling technique. Ato Malinda, also known as Alex Mawimbi is a multidisciplinary performance artist. Early life In 1981 she was born in Kenya, as the daughter of a Kenyan mother and an Ugandan father. She grew up in the Netherlands, but returned to Kenya as a teenager. After high school she moved to the USA where she studied Art History and Molecular Biology at the University of Texas. She had a rough childhood of not being able to satisfy her father's desires of becoming a doctor, as well as dealing with the shame that came with being bisexual in her community. In 2006 after moving to London for a little, her desire to pursue art was reawakened. Ato Malinda was previously known as Alex Mawimbi. That former name more and more came to stand for the memory of her abusive father and family.
