Boris Andreevich Galitzin
Prince Boris Andreevich Golitsyn (Russian – Борис Андреевич Голицын ; 15 May 1766 – 30 March 1822) was a Russian nobleman, army officer and member of the Golitsyn family. Life His parents were Andrei Michailovich Golitsyn (1729–1770) and his wife princess Elizabeta Borisovna Jusupova (1743–1770). He was named after his maternal uncle, Boris Grigorievich Jusupov, while his paternal uncle was Mikhail Mikhailovich Golitsyn (1675–1730). He joined the Preobraženski Regiment in 1779. Four years later, he rose to the rank of sub-lieutenant. He fought against the Swedes in 1790 and the Poles in 1794, rising to major general. He was made a marshal to Grand Duke Konstantin Pavlovich of Russia on 28 November 1796 and on 18 March 1798 became a lieutenant general. Prince Nikolai Borisovich Galitzin (russian: Николай Борисович Голицын, (alternatively transcribed Golitsyn, Golitsïn or Golitsin; 8 December/19 December 1794 – 22 October/3 November 1866) was a Russian aristocrat, of the Galitzin family. He was an amateur musician, and is known particularly for his commissioning three string quartets — opp. 127, 130 and 132 — from Ludwig van Beethoven, which are among the composer's group of late string quartets. Golitsyn Family
The House of Golitsyn or Galitzine was one of the largest princely of the noble houses in the Tsardom of Russia and Russian Empire. Among them were boyars, warlords, diplomats, generals (the Mikhailovichs), stewards, chamberlains, the richest men of Russia (the Alexeyevichs), and provincial landlords (the Vasilyevichs). Since 1694 Bolshiye Vyazyomy was one of the ancestral estates of the Golitsyns, but many others, like Arkhangelskoye Palace and Dubrovitsy near Podolsk, were owned by different branches or members of the family. In the 1850s the Russian memoirist Filipp Vigel despaired: "So numerous are the Golitsyns that soon it will be impossible to mention any of them without the family tree at hand". The siege of Danzig (16 January 1813 – 2 January 1814) was a siege of the city of Danzig during the War of the Sixth Coalition by Russian and Prussian forces against Jean Rapp's permanent French garrison, which had been augmented by soldiers from the Grande Armée retreating from its Russian campaign. The garrison included two crack divisions under Étienne Heudelet de Bierre and Charles Louis Dieudonné Grandjean plus whole units and stragglers that had lost contact with their units, all with their health and morale both weakened and most of their equipment lost and carrying their wounded.
