Borgomanero
Borgomanero ( pms, Borbané; lmo, Borbanee) is a (municipality) in the Province of Novara in the Italian region Piedmont, located about northeast of Turin, about northwest of Novara and about 60 km northwest of Milan. Borgomanero borders the following municipalities: Bogogno, Briga Novarese, Cressa, Cureggio, Fontaneto d'Agogna, Gargallo, Gattico-Veruno, Gozzano, Invorio, Maggiora. Borgomanero has a railway station, served by the Santhià–Arona railway and the Novara-Domodossola railway. History Legend has it that a group of thirteen people, called the Thirteen Orcs (Trözz 'Orchi in dialect form), returning from a pilgrimage to the shrine on the nearby island of San Giulio (Lake Orta), founded the first nucleus of the city, on the banks of the Agogna. Agogna
The Agogna (in Piedmontese ''Agògna'') is a stream which runs through the Italian regions of Piedmont and Lombardy. It is a left side tributary of the river Po.''The Times'' (2003), ''Comprehensive Atlas of the World'', 11th edition, Times Books, Plate 76 (F5). Course The river's origin is in the area between Lake Orta and Lake Maggiore in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola. It then flows south into the province of Novara and flows past Borgomanero and Cureggio before being joined by a branch of the Terdoppio. The river continues to flow south past Caltignaga and Novara. The river then crosses into the province of Pavia and into the Lomellina area (in the communes of Castello d'Agogna and Lomello) and receives its left tributary, the Erbognone. Battle Of Novara (1849)
The Battle of Novara (or ''Battle of Bicocca''; Bicocca being a borough of Novara) was one of the battles fought between the Austrian Empire and the Kingdom of Sardinia during the First Italian War of Independence, within the era of Italian unification. Lasting the whole day of 22 March 1849 and ending at dawn on 23 March, it resulted in a severe defeat and retreat of the Piedmontese (Sardinian) army. Overview An uneasy armistice made in 1848 between Austria and Sardinia lasted less than seven months, before Charles Albert, King of Sardinia, denounced the truce on 12 March 1849. The Austrian army took the military initiative in Lombardy. Under the command of Field Marshal Joseph Radetzky von Radetz, it seized the fortress town of Mortara. Santhià–Arona Railway
The Santhià–Arona railway is a railway line in Piedmont, Italy. It was inaugurated from 1905 to 1906.
