Boredoms (band)
Boredoms () (later known as V∞redoms) is a rock band from Osaka, Japan formed in 1986. The band's sound is often referred to as noise rock, or sometimes Japanoise (Japan’s noise music scene), though their more recent records have moved toward repetitive psychedelic rock, ambient soundscapes, and tribal drumming. The band has a vast and sometimes confusing discography. Many band members have rotated through the group over the years, often using a number of various stage names. Singer Yamantaka Eye is the closest the band has to a frontman; his style includes a range of baffling screams, babbling, electronic effects, and very heavy post-production. Intonation Music Festival
The Intonation Music Festival was a yearly summer music festival held at Union Park in Chicago, Illinois. 2005 The festival was held on July 16–17, 2005. It was conceived of and launched by Skyline Chicago, who hired Pitchfork Media to curate, and supported by Microsoft (by way of the Xbox), Tower Records, WLUW and PETA2, among others. The admission price was $15 per day, with a limited number of $22 two-day passes that were available online only. Gates opened at noon each day. The festival had been announced as slated for Chicago's Pulaski Park, but the festival was moved twice, ending up in the much larger Union Park. Birdman Records is an independent record label based in South San Francisco, California, that was founded in 2000 by David Katznelson, former A&R vice president of Warner Bros. Records. Yoshimi P-We
Yoshimi (born on February 18, 1968) is a Japanese musician best known for her role as the longest consistent drummer in the Japanese rock band Boredoms. Alongside her drum playing skills with Boredoms, she performs the vocals for the all female group OOIOO and also plays trumpet, guitar and keyboards as well. Born in Okayama, Japan, Yoshimi joined her first band, U.F.O. or Die, with EYE in 1986. Since 1997, she has led the all-female band OOIOO and continues to contribute to the current incarnation of Boredoms. Yoshimi has worked on many other projects, most notably a raga band called Saicobab, an ambient project called ''Yoshimi and Yuka'', the tribal-drum-influenced OLAibi, and indie supergroup Free Kitten. She appeared as a session player and vocalist on the Flaming Lips' 2002 album ''Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots''. Yamantaka Eye
(born , 13 February 1964) is a Japanese vocalist and visual artist, best known as a member of Boredoms and Naked City. He has changed his stage name three times, from Yamatsuka Eye, to Yamantaka Eye, to Yamataka Eye, and sometimes calls himself eYe or EYヨ. He also DJs under the name DJ 光光光 or "DJ pica pica pica" ("pica" means "bright" or "shiny"), and has used numerous other pseudonyms. Music Boredoms Born in Kobe, Eye is a founder of the influential rock music band, Boredoms, whose first major label release came out in the early '90s. They were signed to Warner Bros. (Chocolate Synthesizer era) by David Katznelson, then A&R VP of Warner Bros. Rovo
Rovo is a Japanese instrumental band founded in 1996 in Tokyo by guitarist Seiichi Yamamoto ( Boredoms), electric violinist Yuji Katsui (Bondage Fruit), and synthesizer/effects technician Tatsuki Masuko, and featuring Yasuhiro Yoshigaki on drums and percussion, Youichi Okabe on drums and percussion, and Jin Harada on bass guitar. Rovo defines their music as "man-drive trance," and many of their compositions have a repetitive minimalism, blended with progressive rock and psychedelic music, related to the style of bands such as Gong, Neu!, and Simple Minds (circa 1981). Free Kitten
Free Kitten is an American alternative rock band formed by Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon and Pussy Galore's Julia Cafritz. Originally performing as Kitten, they changed their name after receiving threats of legal action by a heavy metal singer performing under the same name. Boredoms member Yoshimi P-We took up drums, and Pavement's Mark Ibold joined later on as bassist. They have released a handful of albums and singles, mainly on label Kill Rock Stars, including a remix 12-inch featuring DJ Spooky. They toured on 1993's Lollapalooza. Yoshimi and Yuka was a collaboration between musicians Yoshimi P-We (of Boredoms, OOIOO, UFO or Die et al.) and Yuka Honda (solo artist and member of Cibo Matto). Destroy 2
Destroy 2 (sometimes called Eye & Chew) was a short-lived Japanese noise rock band. Consisting of only two members, Yamantaka Eye of Boredoms (vocals) and Chew Hasegawa of Corrupted (drums), they released one infamous recording in 1996 called ''We Are Voice and Rhythm Only''. This was actually a live recording of a concert in Osaka done as a support for Brutal Truth on their Japanese tour in February 1995. Running for little over 10 minutes, it nevertheless features 48 songs, the longest of which is "24H?" at a runtime of 39 seconds. The structure of the songs typically consists of Eye introducing the track title, Hasegawa playing his part with Eye performing over it, and Eye closing the track with "Thank you!" The album includes two cover versions: "Beastie Boys" (from the 1982 Beastie Boys EP '' Pollywog Stew'') and "Nazi Punks Fuck Off!" (originally by Dead Kennedys), although the songs have been reduced to one verse and one chorus to fit into 18 and 17 seconds, respectively. ...
