The Chevin are an English post-punk revival band, based in Leeds who formed in 2010 by Your Vegas members and childhood friends, Coyle Girelli (lead vocals and guitars), Mat Steel (guitars and keyboards), Jon Langford (bass guitar) and Mal Taylor (drums). The band took their name from The Chevin, a ridge overlooking their home town of Otley, West Yorkshire. History Formation Singer and songwriter Coyle Girelli and guitarist Mat Steel have been playing music together since the age of 12. All four band members met in school while growing up in the small West Yorkshire town of Otley. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Coyle Girelli is an English recording artist, multi-platinum selling composer, songwriter, record producer and multi-instrumentalist. Anna Bulbrook is an American musician. She previously played violin and provided backing vocals for American rock band the Airborne Toxic Event. Early life Anna Bulbrook is from Boston. She began playing violin at age four. She attended Columbia University where she majored in creative writing. Career At age twenty-one, Bulbrook stopped playing the violin. She felt uneasy about her decision to quit, worrying that she would disappoint her family after years of lessons and providing an expensive, professional-grade violin for her. The Chevin is the ridge on the south side of Wharfedale in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, overlooking the market town of Otley, and often known as Otley Chevin. Etymology The origins of the name ''Chevin'' are uncertain; the earliest attestation is in an eleventh-century copy of a charter from 972 which gives the spelling ''scefinc'', while a charter of around 1030 gives the form ''on Scefinge''. The most probable origin, according to a range of authorities, is a Brittonic word whose modern Welsh descendant is ''cefn'' ("back", "ridge", "ridge of high land").
