Borden County Independent School District is a public school district based in the community of Gail, Texas, United States. The district serves all of Borden County with the exception of a small southwestern portion, which is served by the Sands Consolidated Independent School District. A small portion of Howard County lies within the district. Finances As of the 2010-2011 school year, the appraised valuation of property in the district was $849,037,000. The maintenance tax rate was $0.104 and the bond tax rate was $0.028 per $100 of appraised valuation. Academic achievement In 2011, the school district was rated " exemplary" by the Texas Education Agency. Five percent of districts in Texas in 2011 received the same rating. Independent School District
An independent school district (ISD) is a type of school district in some US states for primary and secondary education that operates as an entity independent and separate from any municipality or county, and only under the oversight of the respective state government. As such, the administrative leadership of such districts is selected from within the district itself and has no direct responsibility to any other governmental authority. The district serves parts of four counties - southeast Dawson, northeast Martin, southwest Borden, and northwest Howard. West Texas is a loosely defined region in the U.S. state of Texas, generally encompassing the arid and semiarid lands west of a line drawn between the cities of Wichita Falls, Abilene, and Del Rio. Six-man Football
Six-man football is a variant of gridiron football played with six players per team, instead of the standard 11 or 12. It is generally played by high schools in rural areas of the United States and Canada. History Six-man football was developed in 1934 by Stephen Epler in Chester, Nebraska, as an alternative means for small high schools to field a football team during the Great Depression. The first game was played on Thursday, September 27, 1934, at the Hebron, Nebraska Athletic Gridiron, under the lights, with a crowd of almost 1000 watching. This game was played so that coaches all over Kansas and Nebraska could see if they wanted to try this new game of six-man.
