Aage Borchgrevink
Aage Storm Borchgrevink (born 1969) is a Norwegian human rights activist, writer and literary critic. He works at the Norwegian Helsinki Committee, where he focuses on the human rights situation in Russia, Chechnya and Georgia. Career He was born in Oslo, and graduated in literary history at the University of Oslo. His fiction releases are the novel ''Arkivene'' from 2000 and the short story collection ''Folkevandringer'' from 2004. He has written two travelogues; ''Eurostories. Reiser i Øst-Europa'' (2003) and ''Den usynlige krigen. Reiser i Tsjetsjenia, Ingusjetia og Dagestan'' (2007). As a literary critic he publishes in ''Vinduet'' and in newspapers. Borchgrevink has worked in the Helsinki Committee in Norway since 1993 as an adviser, mainly on human rights in Russia and other post-Soviet countries. Carsten Borchgrevink
Carsten Egeberg Borchgrevink (1 December 186421 April 1934) was an Anglo-Norwegian polar explorer and a pioneer of Antarctic travel. He inspired Sir Robert Falcon Scott, Sir Ernest Shackleton, Roald Amundsen, and others associated with the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration. Borchgrevink began his exploring career in 1894 by joining a Norwegian whaling expedition, during which he became one of the first people to set foot on the Antarctic mainland. This achievement helped him to obtain backing for his ''Southern Cross'' expedition, which became the first to overwinter on the Antarctic mainland, and the first to visit the Great Ice Barrier since the expedition of Sir James Clark Ross nearly sixty years earlier. Leonhard Christian Borchgrevink Holmboe
Leonhard Christian Borchgrevink Holmboe (10 October 1802 – 24 September 1887) was a Norwegian Lutheran minister and politician. Personal life He was born in Trondenes as the son of bailiff Jens Holmboe (1752–1804) and his wife Anna Margrethe Irgens (1766–1851). He had several brothers and sisters. His brothers Even and Hans became involved in politics, so did his nephew Jens Holmboe. In 1828 he married Elisabeth Musæus, who hailed from Stavanger. Borchgrevink Glacier
Borchgrevink Glacier () is a large glacier in the Victory Mountains, Victoria Land, draining south between Malta Plateau and Daniell Peninsula, and thence projecting into Glacier Strait, Ross Sea, as a floating glacier tongue, the Borchgrevink Glacier Tongue, just south of Cape Jones. It was named by the New Zealand Geological Survey Antarctic Expedition, 1957–58, for Carsten Borchgrevink, leader of the British Antarctic Expedition, 1898–1900. Borchgrevink visited the area in February 1900 and first observed the seaward portion of the glacier. Borchgrevink Nunatak () is a nunatak long which rises to , standing at the south side of the entrance to Richthofen Pass, on the east coast of Graham Land. It was discovered in 1902 by the Swedish Antarctic Expedition under Otto Nordenskiöld, who named it for C. E. Borchgrevink, leader of the British Antarctic Expedition, 1898–1900, to Victoria Land. Borchgrevink Coast
The Borchgrevink Coast is that portion of the coast of Victoria Land between Cape Adare and Cape Washington. The name was recommended by New Zealand Antarctic Place-Names Committee in 1961 after Carsten Borchgrevink, a member of Henrik Johan Bull's expedition to this area, 1894–95, and leader of the British Antarctic Expedition, 1898–1900, the first to winter on the continent, at Cape Adare. Landmarks *Agate Peak is a peak situated in the southeast area of the Intention Nunataks, at the southwest margin of Evans Neve within the Borchgrevink Coast.
