Bor-ming Jahn
Bor-ming Jahn (; 24 August 1940 – 1 December 2016) was a Taiwanese-French geochemist. Born in Miaoli on 24 August 1940, Jahn graduated from Hsinchu Senior High School and attended National Taiwan University, where, in 1963, he earned a bachelor's degree in geology. He obtained a master's degree in geochemistry from Brown University in 1967, and completed a doctorate at the University of Minnesota in 1972. After postdoctoral work and further research at NASA and the Lunar Science Institute, Jahn moved to France and joined the University of Rennes I faculty in 1976. Jahn acquired French nationality in May 1980. In 2003, he returned to Taiwan, serving as distinguished research fellow affiliated with the Institute of Earth Sciences, Academia Sinica from August 2004 to 2010. He left Academia Sinica to take an appointment at NTU, as distinguished chair professor of the department of geosciences. Miaoli
Miaoli City (Wade–Giles: ''Miao²-li⁴''; Hakka PFS: ''Mèu-li̍t-sṳ''; Hokkien POJ: ''Biâu-le̍k-chhī'' or ''Miâu-le̍k-chhī'') is a county-administered city and the county seat of Miaoli County, Taiwan. Miaoli has a relatively high percentage of Hakka people. It had the second highest residential price and the highest commercial price for land in Miaoli County as of 2004, at NT$28,601 per square meter and NT$63,317 per square meter, respectively. Geological Society Of America
The Geological Society of America (GSA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of the geosciences. History The society was founded in Ithaca, New York, in 1888 by Alexander Winchell, John J. Stevenson, Charles H. Hitchcock, John R. Procter and Edward Orton and has been headquartered at 3300 Penrose Place, Boulder, Colorado, US, since 1967. GSA began with 100 members under its first president, James Hall. In 1889 Mary Emilie Holmes became its first female member. It grew slowly but steadily to 600 members until 1931, when a nearly $4 million endowment from 1930 president R. A. F. Penrose Jr. jumpstarted GSA's growth. As of December 2017, GSA had more than 25,000 members in over 100 countries.
