Bootsauce was a Juno Award-winning Canadian rock band based in Montreal. The band was composed of Drew Ling (real name Drew Thorpe) (vocals), Pere Fume (real name Perry Johnson) (guitar), Sonny Greenwich Jr. (guitar), Alan Baculis (bass guitar), and John "Fatboy" Lalley (drums). Their style combined soul, funk and metal sounds. Two of their albums, ''The Brown Album'' and ''Bull'' achieved Gold status in Canada. History Bootsauce was founded in 1989 in Montreal. The band was nominated for a Juno Award as Most Promising Group in 1991, and received a Juno in 1992 for their 1991 single " Everyone's a Winner", a Hot Chocolate cover. ''Bull'' is the second album by the Canadian band Bootsauce, released in 1992. "Love Monkey #9", "Whatcha' Need" and "Big, Bad & Groovy" were released as singles. The album was nominated for a Juno Award, in the "Best Album Design" category. Production The album was produced by Michael Jonzun and the band. Bootsauce shared in the songwriting. "Love Monkey #9" is about animal testing on non-human primates. "Big Bad & Groovy" employs a horn section. Lemmy sang on "Hold Tight". The Brown Album (Bootsauce Album)
The Brown Album is the debut album from Canadian funk rock band Bootsauce. It was released in 1990 on PolyGram Records and spawned four singles, the last of which, their cover of Hot Chocolate's "Everyone's a Winner," became the band's biggest hit. In 1991, the album was certified Gold in Canada by the CRIA, having sold over 40,000 copies. Production ''The Brown Album'' was recorded at Lac-Chat Studios in Saint-Sauveur, Quebec in late 1989. It was produced by the band themselves under the pseudonym "The Fudge Brothers," along with former Mountain drummer Corky Laing. Juno Awards Of 1996
The Juno Awards of 1996, representing Canadian music industry achievements of the previous year, were awarded on 10 March 1996 in Hamilton, Ontario at a ceremony in the Copps Coliseum. Anne Murray was the host for the ceremonies, which were broadcast on CBC Television. Quebec-based independent classical label Analekta Records boycotted the Junos after failing to receive a Juno nomination after attempts for five years. Analekta claimed its sales were twice that of CBC Records. Several record stores such as CD Plus, HMV, Sunrise and Music World also intended to boycott the Junos because competing music retailer Columbia House had signed on as a Juno advertiser. Nominations were announced 31 January 1996. Prominent nominees were Alanis Morissette and Shania Twain who had recent internationally successful albums who both won Grammy Awards on 28 February 1996. Bryan Adams was nominated in 7 categories to set a Juno record, while Tom Cochrane received nominations in 6. Adams sparked controversy in the Canadian music industry several months earlier when he openly criticised Canadian content regulations when his album project, ''Waking Up the Neighbours'', was disqualified as Canadian for radio airplay purposes. Hot Chocolate are a British soul band popular during the 1970s and 1980s, formed by Errol Brown and Tony Wilson. The group had at least one hit song every year on the UK Singles Chart from 1970 to 1980.
