Boondooma Homestead
Boondooma Homestead is a heritage-listed homestead at Mundubbera - Durong Road, Boondooma, South Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from the 1850s to the 1870s. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. History Boondooma Homestead is located on the Mundubbera-Durong Road in Boondooma. The Boondooma Run was originally taken up in 1846 by the Lawson brothers and Robert Alexander, and the homestead site today includes a number of historic buildings, including a stone building and timber house erected in the 1850s, and several timber outbuildings. Searches for pastoral land in Queensland extended north in the early 1840s after the Moreton Bay region was opened for selection following the closure of the penal colony. Initial leases were taken up in the Moreton Bay, Darling Downs and Brisbane Valley regions and by 1842, explorations such as those led by Henry Stuart Russell had spread further north. Boondooma Dam
Boondooma Dam is a dam on the Boyne River on the boundary of Boondooma and Proston in the South Burnett Region of Queensland, Australia. In 1983, the dam was constructed across the Boyne River below its confluence with the Stuart River, creating Lake Boondooma. It has a capacity of 204 200 ML under the of surface area and has an average depth of . The dam forms a narrow and deep lake, designed to avoid evaporation, with one fork containing much standing timber and another having many submerged rocky outcrops. The dam overflowed for the first time in May 1983. It reached a low of 0% capacity in October 2015, after having reached a maximum of 173.8% (6.17m over the spillway) in January 2013 as a result of heavy rain from ex Tropical Cyclone Oswald. Proston is a rural town and locality in the South Burnett Region, Queensland, Australia. Geography The town is located north-west of the state capital, Brisbane northwest of the South Burnett regions commercial centre, Kingaroy and south of Lake Boondooma. Durah is a locality in the Western Downs Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Durah had a population of 6 people. History The locality was named after a pastoral run held in the early 1850s by Thorne and Ridler who also held the adjoining Darr and Ballon runs. The name is believed to be of Aboriginal origin, meaning ''thigh''. In an 1883 map, the Durah run appears with Durah Creek flowing through it and joining Charleys Creek to the south. It is not known whether the creek (with gully and waterhole), or the run was named first. Fairyland West Provisional School opened on 1 May 1941, becoming Fairyland West State School on 26 April 1957. It closed in 1980.
