Boombox (Sirius)
''Boombox'' was a Breakbeat and Old Skool radio channel on Sirius Satellite Radio created and programmed by DJ Liquid Todd. Notable shows on the channel included "Automatic Static" with DJ Icey on Friday nights, an old-school lunchtime show with DJ Red Alert, the "Flash Mash" with DJ Grandmaster Flash and "The Liquid Todd Show" with DJ Liquid Todd which aired weekday afternoons. The channel was canceled when Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio merged in 2008. Currently Liquid Todd hosts a two-hour speciality show with a similar format called "Boombox Radio" on the Sirius XM channel Alt Nation. This show stopped airing on Alt Nation as of September 2015. Old-school hip hop (also spelled old skool) is the earliest commercially recorded hip hop music and original style of the genre. It typically refers to the music created around 1979 to 1983, as well as any hip hop that does not adhere to contemporary styles. DJ Icey, (born Eddie Pappa), is an American DJ, electronic music producer, and remixer, credited by Allmusic as having helped to "jump-start the increasingly fertile dance scene in and around Orlando, FL, during the '90s." ''E, the Incredibly Strange History of Ecstasy'' credits him as "the prime founder of the Funky Breaks and the Florida Breaks." 1999's ''Rave America'' indicates that "the preoccupation with backbeats" characteristic of the Orlando sound was developed by DJ Icey. Frederick Crute (born November 27, 1956), known professionally as Kool DJ Red Alert, is an American disc jockey who rose to fame on WRKS 98.7 Kiss FM in New York City and is recognized as one of the founding fathers of hip hop music and culture. Joseph Saddler (born January 1, 1958), popularly known by his stage name Grandmaster Flash, is an American DJ and rapper.
