Booker Taylor Russell (February 28, 1956 – March 9, 2000) was an American football running back in the National Football League who played for the Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers, and Philadelphia Eagles. He played college football for the Texas State Bobcats. He also played in the USFL The United States Football League (USFL) was a professional American football league that played for three seasons, 1983 through 1985. The league played a spring/summer schedule in each of its active seasons. The 1986 season was scheduled to be ... for the Philadelphia Stars. He was charged with murdering his wife in 1985. A running back (RB) is a member of the offensive backfield in gridiron football. The primary roles of a running back are to receive American football plays#Offensive terminology, handoffs from the quarterback to Rush (American football)#Offense, rush the ball, to line up as a receiver to catch the ball, and Blocking (American football), block. There are usually one or two running backs on the field for a given play, depending on the offensive formation.
