Booji Boy Records
Booji Boy is a character created in the early 1970s by the American new wave band Devo. The name is pronounced "Boogie Boy"—the strange spelling "Booji" resulted when the band was using Letraset to produce captions for a film, and ran out of the letter "g". When the "i" was added but before the "e," Devo's lead singer Mark Mothersbaugh reportedly remarked that the odd spelling "looked right." Booji Boy has traits of a simian child and typically wears an orange nuclear protection suit. He is portrayed by Mothersbaugh in a mask and is the son of another fictitious Devo character, General Boy. The intent of the figure is to satirize infantile regression in Western culture, a quality Devo enjoyed elucidating. The War Of The Gargantuas
is a 1966 '' kaiju'' film directed by Ishirō Honda, with special effects by Eiji Tsuburaya. Referred by film historian Stuart Galbraith IV as a "quasi–sequel" to '' Frankenstein vs. Baragon'', the film was a Japanese-American co-production; it was the third and final collaboration between Toho Co., Ltd and Henry G. Saperstein. The film stars Russ Tamblyn, Kumi Mizuno and Kenji Sahara, with Yû Sekida as Sanda and Haruo Nakajima as Gaira. In the film, scientists investigate the sudden appearance of two giant hairy humanoid monsters that culminates in a battle in Tokyo. The script's final draft was submitted in April 1966. Tab Hunter was originally hired by Saperstein, choosing to replace Nick Adams. However, Hunter was replaced by Tamblyn during pre-production. ''Pioneers Who Got Scalped: The Anthology'' is a compilation album by the American new wave band Devo, released in 2000 by Rhino Records. 17 of the 50 tracks were previously unreleased on CD, including single B-sides, outtakes, remixes, soundtrack songs and spoken word material. The band recorded the long-time concert favorite "The Words Get Stuck in My Throat" (from the film ''The War of the Gargantuas'') in the studio for the first time, specifically for inclusion on this compilation. The liner notes are by music historian Andy Zax, most famous for being the "Music Geek" on the Comedy Central program ''Beat the Geeks''. ''Adventures of the Smart Patrol'' (or ''Devo Presents Music from Adventures of the Smart Patrol'') is a compilation album featuring tracks from the 1996 Inscape CD-ROM computer game of the same name created by American new wave band Devo. It was released in 1996 by Discovery Records. Contents Six of the tracks had been previously released on proper Devo albums and compilations, but the album is noteworthy for containing two new Devo tracks: "Theme From Adventures of the Smart Patrol" (a studio recording of a song that had been played live at the beginning of concerts on the 1981 ''New Traditionalists'' tour) and "That's What He Said." Both songs are credited to the Smart Patrol but are performed by Devo. Also of note is this mix of "U Got Me Bugged," a track which first appeared on the compilation '' Hardcore Devo: Volume 2'' (1991), as it features a new vocal track by Booji Boy. "Bread and Butter" is a 1964 song by American pop vocal trio the Newbeats. Written by Larry Parks and Jay Turnbow, "Bread and Butter" was the group's first and most popular hit. "Bread and Butter" served as the Newbeats' demo in an effort to obtain a recording contract with Hickory Records. They were then asked to formally record the track for the label. The opening two-chord piano riff and the lead falsetto singing voice of Larry Henley are notable features of the song. Soon the song was sampled in the Dickie Goodman novelty tune "Presidential Interview (Flying Saucer '64)". ''Shout'' is the sixth Album#Studio, studio album by American New wave music, new wave band Devo, released on October 9, 1984 by Warner Records, Warner Bros. Records. Arriving two years after their previous studio album, ''Oh, No! It's Devo'' (1982), the album retained the synth-pop sound of their previous few records, with an extensive focus on the then-new Fairlight CMI ''Series IIx'' digital Sampler (musical instrument), sampling synthesizer. Despite the popularity of synth-pop in 1984, the album was a critical and commercial failure, peaking at only No. 83 on the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200 and ultimately leading to Warner Bros. dropping the band from their label.
