Gaelic Football
Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. Bonniconlon, officially Bunnyconnellan (), is a village in the barony of Gallen in north County Mayo, Ireland. The village is on the R294 regional road The term regional road (or route) is used in a number of places to designate roads of more than purely ''local'' but less than ''national'' strategic importance in a country's highway network. The Mayo County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Maigh Eo) or Mayo GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Mayo and the Mayo county teams. The Mayo Junior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by lower-tier Mayo GAA clubs. Islandeady are the title holders (2022) defeating Cill Chomáin in the Final. Honours The trophy presented to the winners is the McDonnell Cup. The winners of the Mayo Junior Championship qualify to represent their county in the Connacht Junior Club Football Championship.
