Bonndorf Graben
The Bonndorf Graben (german: Bonndorfer Graben) is a southeast-northwest to east-west striking, tectonic graben system on the eastern edge of the Black Forest and in the Baar between Bonndorf im Schwarzwald (in the south) and Donaueschingen (in the north). The upper reaches of the Wutach flow through it. Formed during Variscan mountain building (in the Palaeozoic), the graben was reactivated in the Tertiary, when the basement and platform being created. The Bonndorf Graben continues through the Black Forest as the Lenzkirch Graben (''Lenzkircher Graben'') near Lenzkirch, the Höllental valley and the Freiburg Bay running up to the Upper Rhine Graben at Kaiserstuhl. Staufen is a mountain of volcanic origin in the Hegau region ( Konstanz district) of southern Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is located near the town of Hilzingen. The Hohenhewen, also called the Hohenhöwen or, colloquially, Höwen, is the local mountain of the town of Engen, Germany, Engen in the Hegau region of southern Germany. Summit area The summit of the Hohenhewen lies at , rising above the surrounding area by around 300 metres. On its summit plateau are the ruins of Hohenhewen Castle and a viewing platform built on the remains of the old , from where the other mountains and hills of the Hegau, Lake Constance and, to the north, the Swabian Jura, can be seen. Hohentwiel
Hohentwiel is an extinct volcano in the Hegau region of Baden-Württemberg in southern Germany The mountain is west of the city of Singen and 20 miles (30 km) from Lake Constance. Hohentwiel began forming, along with the chain of volcanoes in the Hegau region, about 7–8 million years ago, when a layer of volcanic ash and stone was laid down. The magma consists of phonolite. In the following millions of years, the core was opened 260 metres beneath the surface by the glaciers from the ice age. This formed the core that is now exposed, after the ensuing millions of years of erosion. Hohentwiel Castle, whose ruins are on top of Hohentwiel, was built in 914 using stone taken from the mountain by Burchard II, Duke of Swabia. Originally, the Monastery of St. Georg was within the fortress, but in 1005 it was moved to Stein am Rhein (now in Switzerland), and the Swabian dukes lost control of Hohentwiel.
