Bonaventure is a regional county municipality in the Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine region of eastern Quebec, Canada, on the Gaspé Peninsula. Its seat is New Carlisle. Regional County Municipality
The term regional county municipality or RCM (''french: municipalité régionale de comté, MRC'') is used in Quebec, Canada to refer to one of 87 county-like political entities. In some older English translations they were called county regional municipality. Regional county municipalities are a supralocal type of regional municipality, and act as the local municipality in Unorganized area#Quebec, unorganized territories within their borders. The system of regional county municipalities was introduced beginning in 1979 to replace the List of former counties of Quebec, historic counties of Quebec. In most cases, the territory of an RCM corresponds to that of a Census geographic units of Canada, census division; however, there are a few exceptions. Hope Town, Quebec
Hope Town is a municipality in the Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine region of the province of Quebec in Canada. Despite its name, the place does not have a "town" (''ville'') status. History In 1768, the first pioneer arrived, a certain Duncan McRae, a soldier of the Seaforth Highlanders and native of Dundee in Scotland. His friend and fellow soldier John Ross, who also served in General Wolfe's army, is thought to be the one that attributed the name "Hope" to the place. In 1786, a wave of Loyalists followed and the village was really established. In 1936, the place separated from Hope Township and was incorporated as the Municipality of Hope East. In 1953, it was renamed to Hope Town. List Of Regional County Municipalities And Equivalent Territories In Quebec
This is a list of the regional county municipalities (RCM or MRC) and equivalent territories (TE) in the province of Quebec, Canada. They are given along with their geographical codes as specified by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs, Regions and Land Occupancy, and the administrative regions to which they belong. RCMs are county-like units of government at the supralocal level. However, not all municipalities belong to an RCM. In order to use RCMs for statistical purposes, some municipalities (mostly Indian reserves) are viewed as belonging to RCMs they do not belong to legally. The possibly enlarged RCMs are called ''municipalités régionales de comté géographiques'' (MRCG) as opposed to the legal ones known as ''municipalités régionales de comté juridiques'' (MRCJ). Paspébiac , Gaspésie , Qc
Paspébiac is a city on Baie des Chaleurs in the Gaspésie region of eastern Quebec, Canada. The population was 3,033 as of the Canada 2021 Census. The town is noted for the ''Banc de Pêche de Paspébiac'', a large sandbar jutting out into the bay which has been designated a National Historic Site of Canada. Paspébiac was Quebec's first cod fishing port. The town also has Basque roots and an accent which is different from the rest of the region. Its name may come from the Mi'kmaq expression ''papgeg ipsigiag'', meaning "split flats" or "lagoon". Other sources indicate that the Mi'kmaq named it for ''Wospegiak which means "shining in the distance." Hope, Quebec
Hope is a township municipality in the Canadian province of Quebec, located within the Bonaventure Regional County Municipality. Its population was 568 in the Canada 2016 Census. The only population centre within the township is Saint-Jogues (). History The township was surveyed circa 1786, and named in honour of British Colonel Henry Hope (c. 1746 – 1789), lieutenant-governor of Quebec from 1785 to 1789. At that time, the township also included the territory of Hope Town, Paspébiac, and Saint-Godefroi. In 1913, Saint-Godefroi split off, and in 1936, Hope Town became a separate incorporated municipality. The community of Saint-Jogues was formed in 1930 when 52 settlers were encouraged to colonize Gaspésie's interior during the Great Depression. By 1937, there were 300 residents in this village.
