Bomen
Bomen is a northern suburb of Wagga Wagga in southern New South Wales, Australia. The suburb is dominated by industrial enterprises including Cargill Beef, Watties, the Wagga Wagga Livestock Marketing Centre (saleyards). The suburb is also home to Wagga Wagga's secondary (and original) railway station on the Main Southern line, when the line waited for the construction of a bridge over the Murrumbidgee River. New streets in Bomen are to be named after sheep and cattle breeds. The Bomen railway station is a heritage-listed closed railway station located on the Main South line in Bomen in the City of Wagga Wagga local government area of New South Wales, Australia. The Riverina Intermodal Freight & Logistics Hub (also known as RiFL Hub) is an Australian dry port in the northern Wagga Wagga suburb of Bomen adjacent to the Main Southern railway line. History In July 2013 the Wagga Wagga City Council resolved sought submissions from applicants for the operation of the proposed Riverina Intermodal Freight & Logistics Hub. Asciano were selected as the preferred proponent but backed out. A second venture with rail infrastructure specialist Traxion failed when that company went into voluntary administration. In September 2015 Genesee & Wyoming Australia were selected as the preferred proponent, signing a framework agreement with the council in April 2017. In 2016 BMD Constructions commenced enabling works. In 2018 it was announced that Visy would invest in the development of a freight terminal with the council. The terminal opened in December 2021. North Wagga Wagga (informally called North Wagga) is an inner northern suburb of Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, Australia, located on the floodplain of the Murrumbidgee River, directly across from the city's Central Business District. North Wagga is one of Wagga's oldest suburbs, being settled at approximately the same time as Wagga. Two pubs are located within North Wagga - The Black Swan Hotel and the Palm and Pawn Hotel, as well as a public school, a public hall, a football/cricket ground and a scattering of business and churches. The Main Southern Railway is a major railway in New South Wales, Australia. It runs from Sydney to Albury, near the Victorian border. The line passes through the Southern Highlands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes and Riverina regions. Description of route The Main Southern Railway commences as an electrified pair of tracks in the Sydney metropolitan area. Since 1924, the line branches from the Main Suburban railway line at Lidcombe and runs via Regents Park to Cabramatta, where it rejoins the original route from Granville. The line then heads towards Campbelltown and Macarthur, the current limit of electrification and suburban passenger services. The electrification previously extended to Glenlee colliery, but this was removed following the cessation of electric haulage of freight trains in the 1990s.
