Bollywood Art Project
Bollywood Art Project (aka ''BAP'') is an urban art project started in 2012 in Mumbai, India in memoir of popular Hindi Cinema of Bollywood. It is the brainchild of artist Ranjit Dahiya and is aimed at mapping the cinematic history of Bollywood over the last century. Inspiration The city of Mumbai is synonymous with Bollywood. However, there is little visual presence of Bollywood in the city apart from the upcoming film banners and hoardings. The corporate advertisements and political content has taken over most of the display areas and there is little or no trace left of the movie-town it was. Through this initiative, BAP wants to revisit the rich culture of Bollywood and bring Bollywood out onto the streets, and make it publicly accessible. Although it has started out with the medium of street art to affect a larger audience, it has the intent of opening up to various art forms also within public spaces. Hindi Cinema
Hindi cinema, popularly known as Bollywood and formerly as Bombay cinema, refers to the film industry based in Mumbai, engaged in production of motion pictures in Hindi language. The popular term Bollywood, is a portmanteau of "Bombay" (former name of Mumbai) and " Hollywood". The industry is a part of the larger Indian cinema, which also includes South Cinema and other smaller film industries. In 2017, Indian cinema produced 1,986 feature films, of which the largest number, 364 have been from Hindi. , Hindi cinema represented 43 percent of Indian net box-office revenue; Tamil and Telugu cinema represented 36 percent, and the remaining regional cinema constituted 21 percent. ''Anarkali'' is a 1953 Indian historical drama film, directed by Nandlal Jaswantlal, and written by Nasir Hussain and Hameed Butt, based on the historical legend of the Mughal emperor Jahangir (Salim). As per the legend, Jahangir revolted against his father Akbar over his love for a common girl called Anarkali. It was the top grossing Hindi film in the year of its release - 1953. Bandra
Bandra (Indian English, [bæːɳɖɾa]) also known as Vandre (Help:IPA/Marathi, [ʋaːn̪d̪ɾe]) is an upscale coastal suburb located in Mumbai (Bombay) area of the Konkan division, Maharashtra, India. The suburb is located to the immediate north of River Mithi, which separates Bandra from Mumbai City district. Originally, Bandra was a larger area, whence the present day Khar, Mumbai, Khar neighbourhood was also a part of it. Almost a century ago, it was considered too large a suburb to be served by one railway station. Therefore, the Khar Road railway station was established in 1924, to give the northern part of Bandra closer access to the Western Railway (India), Western Railway line.
