Granby, Quebec
Granby is a town in southwestern Quebec, located east of Montreal. The population as of the Canada 2021 Census was 69,025. Granby is the seat of La Haute-Yamaska Regional County Municipality. It is the second most populated city in Estrie after Sherbrooke. The town is named after John Manners, Marquess of Granby; today it is most famous for the Granby Zoo and its landmark fountain of Lac Boivin. Pierre Boivin, OC (born October 28, 1953) is a French Canadian businessman and was president of the Montreal Canadiens from September 2, 1999, through June 30, 2011, succeeding Ronald Corey. Business At the age of 25, Boivin founded Norvinca Sports. It would become the largest sporting goods distributor in Canada. Leo Joseph Boivin (August 2, 1931 – October 16, 2021) was a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman and coach who played 19 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL). He played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Minnesota North Stars from 1952 to 1970. Playing career Boivin was born in Prescott, Ontario, on August 2, 1931. He began playing hockey at seven years of age on the rivers and outdoor ice surfaces of Prescott, near Ottawa. Guillaume Boivin (born 25 May 1989) is a Canadian professional road racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Boivin's greatest cycling accomplishment was finishing in a dead heat for the bronze at the World Under-23 Road Race Championships in 2010. Born in Granby, Quebec, the son of Henri Boivin and Sarah Bray, Boivin was educated at Granby Academy, St. Joseph's College, and Granby Mannoir College in Marieville. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1902 from Laval University in Quebec City. He studied law in the offices of Greenshields, Heneker & Mitchell in Montreal, and was admitted to the bar of the Province of Quebec in 1907. Françoise Boivin (born June 11, 1960 in Hull, Quebec) is a Canadian politician, who represented the electoral district of Gatineau in the House of Commons of Canada until 2015.
