Bohdan Khmelnytsky Melitopol State Pedagogical University is a Ukrainian university in Melitopol. It is one of the most developed universities in Zaporizhia, Ukraine. It was established in 1923, and is also one of the leading state universities in the education of teachers. History The institute started with five departments: The Social Economics Department, the Department of Pedagogues, the Department of Language and Literature, the Department of Agriculture and Biology, and the Department of Mathematics. In 1919, training courses for teachers were organized at Melitopol Non-Classical Secondary School. In 1920, a decree on the opening of Pedagogical School was adopted. In the summer of 1941, students and teachers of the university were drafted into the Red Army following the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union. Since 1978, the institute was headed by Professor I.N. Bohdan Zynovii Mykhailovych Khmelnytskyi ( Ruthenian: Ѕѣнові Богданъ Хмелнiцкiи; modern ua, Богдан Зиновій Михайлович Хмельницький; 6 August 1657) was a Ukrainian military commander and Hetman of the Zaporozhian Host, which was then under the suzerainty of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth.
