Bodorgan Railway Station
Bodorgan railway station serves the hamlet of Bodorgan and the village of Bethel on the Isle of Anglesey, Wales. The stop is an unmanned halt, and serves as a request stop for Chester and Holyhead-bound local trains along the North Wales coast. History The station, which was originally to be called Trefdraeth, was opened in October 1849 and had a small signal box, a small goods yard and a water tower. The goods yard closed in December 1964 but the stationmaster's house remains (now in private use).Jones, Geraint: ''Anglesey Railways'', page 31. Carreg Gwalch, 2005 There are stone-built shelters on both platforms. At around 05:00 am on 8 February 2011 an unnamed man was hit by a Holyhead-bound train near the station and died at the scene. Bodorgan
Bodorgan is a village and community (Wales), community on the Isle of Anglesey, Wales, United Kingdom. According to the United Kingdom Census 2001, 2001 Census, there were 1,503 residents in the now former Wards of the United Kingdom, electoral ward, 72.7% of them being able to speak Welsh language, Welsh. This increased to 1,704 at the 2011 Census but only 67.72% of this increased population were Welsh speakers. The village is served by Bodorgan railway station, which is located near the hamlets of Bethel, Anglesey, Bethel and Llangadwaladr to the north-west, which are in the community, as is Malltraeth. It lies on an unclassified road to the southwest of the village of Hermon, Anglesey, Hermon, through which the A4080 road passes. To the east and south of Bodorgan lies the estuary of the Afon Cefni and the extensive Malltraeth Sands. Bodorgan Hall is the largest country estate in Anglesey. Level Crossings In The United Kingdom
There are around 6,000 level crossings in the United Kingdom, of which about 1,500 are public highway crossings. This number is gradually being reduced as the risk of accidents at level crossings is considered high. The director of the UK Railway Inspectorate commented in 2004 that "the use of level crossings contributes the greatest potential for catastrophic risk on the railways." The creation of new level crossings on the national network is banned (the exception being reopening unavoidable crossings on new/reopening railway lines, and on heritage railways), with bridges and tunnels being the more favoured options. The cost of making significant reductions, other than by simply closing the crossings, is substantial; some commentators argue that the money could be better spent.
